Chapter 9 - The Garden of Rebirth

Six months later.
The summer sun shone bright and golden over the North Hills estate. The gardens were in full, vibrant bloom—red roses, purple lavender, and white lilies filling the air with sweet, intoxicating fragrance.
Near the broad wooden gazebo on the back lawn, a massive white marquee tent was decorated with fairy lights, silk ribbons, and fresh flowers.
Inside the house, Elena stood before a full-length mirror in the master suite. She was wearing a breathtaking silk wedding dress with intricate lace embroidery sweeping across the shoulders and trailing down into a graceful train.
Her hair was styled in soft waves, adorned with small white blossoms. She didn't look like the pale, exhausted woman who had stood in Rosetti's Bakery begging for an expired piece of cake. She was radiant, glowing with health, confidence, and radiant happiness.
The door opened softly, and Sophia stepped into the room.
The eight-year-old girl was wearing a matching pale pink flower-girl dress, a delicate floral wreath resting on her curled hair. She was holding a small silver basket filled with rose petals.
"Mommy," Sophia gasped, her bright blue eyes wide with pure delight. "You look like a real princess!"
Elena kneeled down, careful not to wrinkle her dress, and pulled her daughter into a gentle hug. "And you look like the most beautiful flower girl in the whole world, sweetie."
Sophia giggled, resting her head against Elena's shoulder. "Is Uncle Sal going to be my new daddy now?"
Elena pulled back slightly, looking into her daughter's bright, happy face. "Only if you want him to be, baby."
Sophia nodded vigorously, her floral wreath wobbling slightly. "I do! He showed me how to ride a pony yesterday, and he promised he's going to build me a massive treehouse behind the oak trees!"
A knock sounded at the open door. Maria stood in the entrance, wiping tears from her eyes with a lace handkerchief.
"It's time, my dear," Maria whispered, her voice trembling with joy. "The guests are waiting, and the groom looks like he's going to burst through the door if you don't come downstairs soon!"
Elena stood up, taking a deep, steadying breath. She took Sophia’s hand, and together they walked down the grand mahogany staircase toward the sunlit garden.
Standing at the altar under a canopy of white roses stood Salvatore Costa.
He was dressed in a pristine black tuxedo, his tall, powerful frame looking magnificently handsome. As he saw Elena walking down the aisle toward him, his dark eyes shone with a deep, breathless adoration that left no doubt in anyone's mind about where his heart belonged.
Beside him, Marco stood as his best man, wearing a surprisingly neat suit and holding the gold bands.
As Elena reached the altar, Salvatore extended his large, warm hand, taking hers into his strong grip.
"You are breathtaking, Elena," he whispered softly, his voice rich with intense emotion.

"And you are my hero, Salvatore," she replied softly, her eyes locked onto his.
The elderly priest smiled, opening his leather-bound book. "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the sight of God and these witnesses to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony..."
