Chapter 10 - A Life Transformed
One year later.
The sun shone brightly over the grounds of the Kane estate on the shores of Lake Michigan.
The sweeping lawns were decorated with thousands of white roses, soft silk tents, and flickering lantern lights. Over three hundred guests filled the elegant white chairs arranged along a carpeted aisle leading toward an altar facing the calm blue lake.
Standing at the altar was Dominic Kane. He looked remarkably handsome in a sharp black tuxedo, his eyes fixed on the garden entrance with a look of pure, breathless anticipation. Beside him as best man stood Vance, looking proud and sharp in his own suit.
Sitting in the front row was Maya, wearing a lovely white dress, holding a basket of rose petals, smiling brightly at her father.
The harpist began to play a soft, romantic melody.
Everyone stood up.
Walking down the aisle, holding a bouquet of white orchids, was Claire.
She was a vision of absolute grace and beauty. Her gown was a masterpiece of lace and silk that flowed around her like a cloud, her dark-blonde hair styled in an elegant crown of braids, her face illuminated by a joy so radiant it warmed the entire garden.
As she reached the altar, Dominic stepped down to take her hand. His grip was warm, solid, and filled with deep, unwavering devotion.
"You are my whole life, Claire," Dominic whispered, his dark eyes shining with tears of joy.
"And you are mine, Dominic," Claire whispered back, her heart soaring into her chest.
The minister stepped forward, his voice echoing over the peaceful grounds.
"We are gathered here today to celebrate a union born not of circumstance, but of courage, healing, and unbreakable love. Two lives that met in the shadows of an emergency room have built a fortress of light that now touches thousands."
When it came time for the vows, Dominic took both of Claire’s hands in his.
"Claire," Dominic said, his deep voice carrying clearly over the gentle sound of the lake waves. "I spent most of my life believing that the world was cold and that love was a weakness. But the night you stepped out of the rain and called in your debt, you showed me that true strength lies in protecting those you love. I promise to honor you, cherish you, defend you, and love you with every breath I have, for all the days of my life."
Claire wiped a happy tear from her cheek, smiling through her tears.
"Dominic," Claire said softly, her eyes locked onto his. "When I lost everything, you gave me a reason to fight. You showed me that I was never weak, and you built a world where I could stand tall and proud. I promise to be your partner, your refuge, your best friend, and your wife, today, tomorrow, and forever."
"By the power vested in me," the minister declared with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! Dominic, you may kiss your bride!"
Dominic pulled Claire gently into his arms, dipping her slightly, and kissed her with a deep, passionate intensity that filled the entire garden with warmth and magic.
The crowd erupted into joyful applause, cheered on by Maya, who threw rose petals into the air with delight.
Later that evening, as the sun set over the lake, painting the sky in brilliant hues of pink, gold, and purple, lantern lights illuminated the garden.
Claire and Dominic stood together at the edge of the stone terrace, watching their guests dance under the warm summer night. Dominic stood behind her, his broad arms wrapped securely around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder.
Claire leaned back against his solid chest, looking down at the sparkling sapphire ring on her finger, then looking at her daughter playing happily on the lawn with Elena and Vance.
"Are you happy, my queen?" Dominic whispered into her ear, kissing the soft spot behind her jaw.
Claire turned in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck, looking into the dark eyes of the man who had transformed her life from a nightmare into a dream.
