Chapter 7 - THE HOSTILE RECKONING

With Marco Rossi’s faction dismantled and Clara safely returned, the time came to purge the remaining corrupt elements within the Syndicate’s broader political and corporate network.
The final battlefield was not fought with automatic rifles in dark alleys, but in the grand ballroom of the Boston Harbor Hotel during the annual Maritime Executive Summit—a gathering of high-society politicians, shipping magnates, and corporate leaders.
Dante walked into the ballroom with me on his arm.
The transformation was absolute. I wore a breathtaking, custom-designed emerald green silk gown that draped over my full curves like tailored liquid jewelry. A diamond necklace nestled against my collarbone, and my hand rested securely in the crook of Dante’s arm.
Beside us walked Clara, fully recovered, wearing an elegant silver gown, flanked by Matteo and two senior guards.
The room fell quiet as we entered. The corrupt councilmen who had secretly taken bribes from Marco Rossi froze, their champagne glasses pausing midway to their lips.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Dante’s voice echoed smoothly across the silent ballroom as he stepped onto the central podium. "Tonight, we celebrate a new era for the Moretti Logistics Corporation."
He gestured to Clara and me.
"As of six o'clock this evening, fifty-one percent of the voting shares of Moretti Logistics have been transferred into an irrevocable trust for my niece, Lily Vance-Moretti," Dante announced, his eyes sweeping over the room with sovereign authority. "The trust will be jointly managed by her mother, Clara Vance, and her legal guardian, Sophia Vance."
Spontaneous applause broke out among the legitimate business leaders in the room.
The corrupt councilmen tried to slip toward the side exits, but Matteo and four uniformed state police officers stepped into the doorways, holding federal arrest warrants issued based on the decrypted files Julian and Clara had secured.
"Your time is up, gentlemen," Dante said quietly, watching as the corrupt officials were led away in handcuffs without a single disturbance to the evening's festivities.
He turned back to me, taking my hand and pulling me into the center of the dance floor as the orchestra began to play a slow, sweeping waltz.
As he pulled me close, his hand resting on the small of my waist, I looked up into his eyes, laughing softly.
May you like
"You really enjoy dramatic entrances, don't you, Don Dante?" I teased gently.
Dante smiled, spinning me effortlessly across the polished dance floor. "Only when I have the most stunning woman in the city on my arm, Miss Vance."
