Chapter 6 - The Canal Street Raid

By midnight, the rain had returned to New York, turning the neon-lit streets of Chinatown into a blurred canvas of reflection and fog.

Three black SUVs slipped silently into the alleyway behind the Canal Street dry cleaners. Lorenzo sat in the front seat of the lead vehicle, a suppressed submachine gun resting against his knee. Beside him, Sarah sat wearing a dark tactical jacket over her clothes, her face pale but determined.

"You stay in the car, Sarah," Lorenzo ordered, his voice firm and unyielding. "This is an enforcement action."

"The manager won't talk to your men, Lorenzo," Sarah countered, checking the small medical kit she had packed in her pocket. "He knows what your suits mean. He’ll destroy the drive before you even get through the front door. But he knows me. He thinks I’m still looking for extra catering shifts."

Lorenzo stared at her for three long seconds. The protective father inside him wanted to chain her to the estate; the strategic king recognized that she was his best weapon.

"Dmitri, Marco, follow her form," Lorenzo commanded over the radio. "If a single hair on her head is touched, erase the entire block."

Sarah stepped out into the freezing rain, her sneakers splashing through the dark puddles as she approached the service door of the dry cleaners. She knocked three times—the specific cadence used by the Pierre Hotel delivery staff.

The small iron view-port slid open. A pair of tired, suspicious eyes peered out through the rain. "Sarah? What are you doing here? The hotel doesn't have an order tonight."

"Mr. Chen, please let me in," Sarah gasped, feigning a look of sheer exhaustion and distress. "My brother's medication... the pharmacy in Queens was closed, and I lost my purse near the subway. I thought you might have some extra floor-cleaning shifts tonight."

The lock clicked. The heavy metal door swung open. "You're a crazy girl, Sarah. It's too late for—"

Before Mr. Chen could finish, Sarah stepped inside, her hand immediately reaching out to steady the old man’s arm, while Marco and four armed Caruso soldiers flooded through the opening behind her like ghosts, their weapons raised.

"Don't move, Chen," Marco whispered, his weapon trained on the security desk.

Sarah walked past them into the small kitchen area, her fingers tracking the dusty shelves until she found it—a grease-stained copy of an old Cantonese recipe book. She flipped the pages until she found a sequence of numbers written in red ink beside a recipe for winter melon soup.

"Got it," she said, handing the book to Lorenzo as he stepped through the door, his massive form filling the narrow corridor.

"Download the server," Lorenzo ordered his tech specialist, his gray eyes fixing on Sarah with a profound, quiet intensity. "The DA belongs to us by morning."
