Chapter 8 - THE PROXY WAR

The grand auditorium of the Seattle Convention Center was packed with over five hundred shareholders, financial journalists, and corporate titans. The atmosphere was charged with electrifying tension as the emergency proxy vote for the future of Carter Global Logistics commenced.
On the main stage sat Richard Carter and Naomi, flanked by their legal team. Across the aisle sat the representatives of Vanguard Holdings—a team of high-powered, ruthless attorneys led by a smug senior partner named Arthur Pendelton.
Pendelton stood up, adjusting his golden tie as he addressed the audience and the board members.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Pendelton proclaimed, his voice booming through the sound system. "The recent scandals involving Carter Global—the vault security breach, the arrest of former executive associates, and the volatile fluctuations in stock price—prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Carter family is no longer capable of leading this enterprise into the modern era. Vanguard Holdings moves to immediately dissolve the current board and institute a total restructuring!"
A wave of nervous murmurs swept through the room.
Richard started to stand up to speak, but Naomi placed a gentle hand on his arm. "Let me, Dad."
Naomi stood up, walking gracefully to the podium in the center of the stage. She wore an elegant cream-colored power suit, looking radiant, commanding, and utterly fearless. The room fell instantly silent.
"Mr. Pendelton paints a picture of chaos," Naomi began, her voice ringing clear and steady across the auditorium. "He speaks of security breaches and volatile stock. But what he conveniently omitted is the fact that Vanguard Holdings manufactured that chaos."
Pendelton scoffed. "Objection! These are baseless accusations from a grieving heiress!"
"I don't make accusations without evidence, Mr. Pendelton," Naomi said coolly.
She tapped a button on her remote control. The giant screens behind her lit up, displaying the decrypted ledger recovered from Ethan’s safe, alongside bank transaction flowcharts linking Vanguard Holdings directly to Victor Sterling and Ethan Vance.
The crowd gasped. Reporters began snapping photos frantically.
"Two hours ago," Naomi continued, pointing to the financial documents, "the Federal Bureau of Investigation served search warrants on Vanguard’s headquarters in New York. The evidence proves that Vanguard paid twenty million dollars to Ethan Vance to steal my family’s heirloom and orchestrate a cyber assault on our fleet."
Pendelton’s face went completely grey. His legal team began hurriedly whispering among themselves, gathering their briefcases.
"Furthermore," Naomi’s voice rose with majestic authority, "using a five-hundred-million-dollar credit facility backed by the very Carter Diamond you tried to steal, Carter Global has successfully repurchased thirty-five percent of our public stock. Combined with my father’s majority stake, Vanguard’s hostile takeover bid is officially dead."
The auditorium erupted into thunderous applause. Shareholders stood up, cheering for Naomi.
Pendelton and his team tried to make a hasty exit, but at the back of the auditorium, federal agents were already waiting to escort them into custody for corporate espionage and conspiracy.
From the front row, Marcus Thorne stood up, his hands clapping slowly, his eyes locked onto Naomi with unbounded pride.

Naomi stepped down from the stage into her father’s waiting arms. "You saved us, Naomi," Richard wept silently, holding his daughter tight. "Your mother would be so proud of you."
"We saved ourselves, Dad," Naomi smiled softly, looking over her father’s shoulder at Marcus, who was walking toward her.
