Chapter 5 - The Arrest

The execution of the arrest warrant took place at the Voss family’s ancestral estate in Long Island—a sprawling, multi-million-dollar property that Graham had bought using the first windfall from Monroe Wellness.

Rachel and I sat in a sleek black SUV parked down the street, watching through tinted windows as three federal law enforcement vehicles pulled into the gated driveway, their blue and red lights flashing against the stone pillars.

It was raining heavily. The wind whipped through the grand oak trees surrounding the mansion.

Federal agents stepped out of their vehicles, knocked heavily on the carved oak front doors, and presented the warrant to Evelyn Voss, who opened the door in a silk dressing gown. Her screams of protest could be heard even from down the driveway.

Moments later, two federal officers led Graham out of the house in handcuffs.

He wasn't wearing his tailored suits anymore. He wore gray sweatpants and a rumpled t-shirt. His hands were cuffed behind his back, his head bowed against the pouring rain.

As they led him toward the back of the police transport van, Graham looked up and spotted our SUV parked by the gate. Through the rain-slicked glass, our eyes met one final time.

There was no pride left in him. No arrogance. No smug laughter.

He looked small, broken, and terrified—a fraud finally stripped of every mask he had ever worn.

"It's over, Mara," Rachel said softly beside me, putting a warm hand on my shoulder. "He’s never coming back from this."

"It’s over for him," I said, watching the police van pull away into the dark night. "But for my father's legacy, it’s just beginning."
