Chapter 10 - Forever Unbroken

The reception was a joyous, uninhibited party filled with rich food, joyful music, and heartfelt speeches.
At the head table, a custom dessert menu catered specifically to all dietary needs—including low-glycemic, delicious options— sat beside glowing candles. Elena’s continuous glucose monitor discreetly beeped a comfortable 110 mg/dL on her phone, which rested safely next to Alexander's hand on the table.
As the sun began to set, painting the ocean horizon in shades of violent violet, gold, and pink, Alexander took Elena’s hand and led her out onto the wooden dock extending over the calm water.
They leaned against the railing together, listening to the gentle ocean waves lapping below.
"What are you thinking about?" Alexander asked, wrapping his jacket around her shoulders to shield her from the cool evening breeze.
Elena rested her head against his shoulder, looking at the glittering diamond on her hand and then at the quiet beauty of the sea.
"I was thinking about the girl who was lying on that cold marble floor a year ago," Elena murmured softly. "She thought her life was over. She thought she was broken."
Alexander kissed the top of her head. "And what would you tell her now?"
Elena smiled, turning her head to look into the warm, devoted eyes of her husband.
"I’d tell her that her pain was just the beginning of her strength," Elena said quietly. "I’d tell her that she was going to survive the monsters, tear down an empire, find her true purpose, and marry the man who jumped over the counter to save her."
Alexander laughed softly, wrapping his arms securely around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest.
"I'd jump over a thousand counters for you, Mrs. Vance," he whispered against her lips.

"You won't need to," Elena smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck as the twilight settled over them. "From now on, we step forward together."
Underneath the endless starry sky, safe in the arms of the man who loved her completely, Elena knew her true story was just beginning—unbroken, powerful, and happily ever after.
