Chapter 7 - The Aftermath

Six months later, the dust had finally settled.

The Blackwood Group was liquidated, its assets seized and redistributed to pay restitution to the hundreds of victims they had scammed and threatened over the decades. Evelyn Thorne-Blackwood was sentenced to twenty-five years in federal prison without the possibility of parole. Julian received seven years for extortion, while Grant, stripped of his trust fund and social standing, was forced to take a low-level job in another state, completely erased from the elite circles he had once inhabited.

Elena’s father attempted to reach out to her, begging for forgiveness, but Elena remained firm. She established strict boundaries, refusing to let toxic family back into her life simply because of blood.

Chloe, on the other hand, had completely transformed. She finalized her divorce from Julian, dropped the Blackwood name, and used her remaining personal funds to open a shelter for women escaping abusive relationships. She and Elena began rebuilding their sisterhood from the ground up—this time based on honesty, equality, and genuine love.

Meanwhile, Elena turned her ordeal into a movement. She founded The Anchor Foundation, an international non-profit dedicated to advocating for diabetic rights, offering free medical technology to underprivileged youth, and providing legal assistance to patients facing medical discrimination.

One evening, after a successful charity gala that raised over two million dollars for insulin access, Elena walked up to the rooftop garden of the foundation's headquarters.

The night air was crisp and sweet.

A moment later, she heard familiar footsteps behind her.

Alexander walked out onto the roof, wearing his signature sharp suit, carrying two glasses of sparkling apple cider.

"You blew the board away tonight," Alexander said, handing her a glass. "The foundation is going to change thousands of lives."

"We are going to change thousands of lives," Elena corrected gently, clinking her glass against his. "I couldn't have built any of this without you."

"You did the hard work, Elena," he said softly. "I just cleared the path."

Alexander stepped closer, looking at her in the moonlight. "I turned in my resignation to the task force yesterday."

Elena looked up, surprised. "What? Alexander, you’re their best investigator!"

"I was," Alexander smiled, his eyes locked on hers with unshakeable devotion. "But I realized that chasing criminals all over the world isn't what I want anymore. I want to build something real. I want to be here. With you."
