Chapter 10 - The Vow in the Pines

One year later.

The private garden behind the Pines estate was transformed into a breathtaking sanctuary of white roses, silver lanterns, and soft acoustic music.

It was a small, intimate wedding ceremony, attended by Victoria Vance, Mrs. Gable, our close foundation staff, and the medical team who had helped deliver Maya two years ago.

I walked down the stone aisle wearing an elegant, simple lace gown that flowed around my feet like sea foam. My dark hair was pinned back with small pearl clips, and in my hands I carried a bouquet of white roses and pine sprigs.

Standing under a wooden floral arbor at the end of the aisle was Luka.

He looked strikingly handsome in a custom black tuxedo, his hair trimmed neatly, his posture proud and strong. The tattoos on his neck traced subtle dark lines above his crisp white collar—a reminder of the dangerous, loyal man who had stood between me and the dark world two years ago.

Standing beside him as the ring bearer was two-year-old Maya, wearing a miniature white dress and a little flower crown, holding a small velvet ring box with pure, proud concentration.

"We are gathered here today," the officiant spoke warmly, "to join two lives brought together not by chance, but by a sacred promise of protection, loyalty, and unyielding love."

When it came time for vows, Luka took both of my hands in his. His broad, calloused fingers were warm and steady against mine.

"Clara," Luka spoke, his deep voice carrying across the quiet garden, filled with intense, raw emotion. "Two years ago, I walked into a hospital hallway to fulfill a debt to a man who saved my life. I expected a mission. Instead, I found you—holding a newborn baby in a world that had turned its back on you."

Tears glistened in my eyes as I smiled up at him.

"I promised to protect you then," Luka continued, his eyes locked onto mine with fierce devotion. "Today, I promise to spend the rest of my life making sure you and Maya never feel alone, never feel unsafe, and never doubt that you are my entire world. You are my home, Clara."

I took a deep, shuddering breath, holding his hands tightly.

"Luka," I spoke softly, my voice clear and full of love. "You walked into the darkest day of my life and brought the light with you. You signed your name when everyone else walked away. You showed me what a real man, a real father, and a real husband truly is. I give you my heart, my life, and my forever."

"By the power vested in me," the officiant smiled brightly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! Luka, you may kiss your bride!"

Luka pulled me into his arms, lifting me slightly off my feet as his lips met mine in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed our past, our present, and our endless future together.

The garden erupted into joyous applause. Maya squealed happily, running up to wrap her little arms around both of our legs.

Luka scooped Maya up into his right arm while keeping his left arm wrapped securely around my waist. Together, the three of us walked down the aisle into the warm, golden afternoon sunlight—a real family, bound not by blood, but by an unbroken promise of love.
