Chapter 7 - Sloane's Betrayal

Sloane Avery was not a woman built for poverty.

When she realized Derek’s accounts were gone, she immediately began packing her things. She had three designer suitcases filled with clothes, jewelry, and handbags that Derek had bought her with stolen corporate funds.

She had a plan: flee to Miami, sell the luxury items, and find someone else to fund her lifestyle.

As she dragged her suitcases down the hallway of her high-rise apartment, she found the door blocked by two federal agents and Arthur Pendelton.

"Miss Avery," Agent Miller said, flashing his badge. "We have a warrant for your arrest."

"What?!" Sloane shrieked. "On what grounds? I didn't do anything!"

"You are a named officer in three shell corporations used to launder four million dollars from Callahan Logistics," Arthur said, holding up a document. "And as of ten minutes ago, Derek Callahan has signed a full confession, naming you as the mastermind behind the entire embezzlement scheme."

Sloane’s face went completely pale. "He... he blamed me?"

"He did," Arthur smiled coldly. "He offered to testify against you in exchange for a lighter sentence. It seems your partner in crime didn't have much loyalty left."

"That miserable, lying coward!" Sloane screamed, her elegant facade completely shattering. "I'll tell you everything! He was the one who did it! He hated his wife, he wanted to ruin her! I have recordings of him!"

"Excellent," Agent Miller said, pulling out handcuffs. "You can tell us all about it at the station."
