Chapter 3 - The Financial Audit
By the next morning, Claire had officially checked out of the hospital under private security hired by Ryan. They moved into a secure penthouse downtown—far away from the Whitmore family mansion. Their newborn daughter, named Sophia, was resting safely in the nursery.
While Ryan took care of Sophia, Claire set up her command center in the study. Laptop screens flickered with complex spreadsheets, offshore account numbers, and encrypted banking logs.
"What are you looking at?" Ryan asked, bringing her a warm cup of tea and sitting beside her.
"Your family's holding firm, Whitmore Global Enterprise," Claire said, pointing at a series of massive financial discrepancies highlighted in red. "Margaret and Caleb haven't just been trying to control you, Ryan. They’ve been embezzling from the family trust for over six years."
Ryan stared at the numbers in disbelief. "That's impossible. Caleb handles all our legal audits."
"Caleb is the one falsifying the tax filings," Claire explained, her fingers flying across the keyboard. "Look here. Shell companies registered in the Cayman Islands under the name Aegis Holdings. Every time your family's real estate firm closed a multi-million-dollar deal, 15% of the capital was siphoned into Aegis. Margaret is using it to cover hundreds of millions in personal gambling debts and illegal offshore investments."
Ryan felt a chill run down his spine. "They didn't just want custody of Sophia to hurt you... they needed full control over my trust fund because Sophia's birth triggered the automatic transfer of my grandfather's inheritance."

"Exactly," Claire confirmed, a cold smirk touching her lips. "If I was declared insane and put away, and you were controlled by Margaret, they would have gained full administrative access to the $400 million grandfather left for your heir."
Claire looked into Ryan's eyes. "They didn't just try to destroy my life, Ryan. They’ve been stealing your birthright and preparing to throw you under the bus when the IRS eventually caught on."
