Chapter 6 - Unmasking the Paid Accomplices

Claire didn't waste a single moment. While the restraining order kept Margaret at bay physically, Claire targeted the weak links in Margaret's armor: the two corrupt hospital nurses.

Using her forensic skills, Claire traced the financial records of Nurse Sarah Jenkins and Nurse Brenda Vance. Within forty-eight hours, she found two wire transfers of $50,000 each into their offshore bank accounts, routed directly through Aegis Holdings—Margaret's secret shell company.

Accompanied by Victoria Sterling and two detectives from the Major Crimes Unit, Claire arrived at Saint Jude Hospital.

In a private conference room, the two nurses sat trembling as Victoria laid out the bank statements, the surveillance video, and criminal indictment papers for felony assault, conspiracy, and medical malpractice.

"You have ten minutes to make a choice," Claire said calmly, leaning across the table. "Option one: you take the fall for Margaret and face fifteen years in state prison. Option two: you sign sworn affidavits confessing that Margaret Whitmore and Caleb Whitmore paid you to drug me, physically restrain me, and falsify my psychiatric evaluation."

Nurse Sarah burst into tears instantly. "It was Margaret! She promised us immunity! She said Caleb would handle the legal side if anything went wrong!"

"Sign here," Victoria said smoothly, pushing the confession documents across the table.

With the nurses' sworn confessions in hand, the criminal trap around Margaret and Caleb was officially set.
