Six months later, the high-profile criminal trial of State v. Margaret Whitmore & Caleb Whitmore concluded in a packed federal courthouse.
The jury returned a verdict in less than two hours.
Margaret Whitmore was found guilty on all counts, including conspiracy to kidnap, extortion, wire fraud, and aggravated assault. She was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison without the possibility of early parole. Her entire personal fortune was confiscated by the state to pay for restitution and back taxes.
Caleb Whitmore was disbarred, convicted of grand larceny, fraud, and assault, and received a 15-year prison sentence.
