Chapter 5 - The Hollow Realm

The walls began to groan violently. The plaster tore open in multiple places, revealing the dark, hollow wooden framing beneath—the hidden secondary spaces built almost ninety years ago.

From those shadows, dark shapes began to crawl. Not just one entity, but twisted manifestations of the house’s dark history—shadowy tendrils reaching out to trap us.

“Keep swinging, Daniel!” I screamed, throwing handfuls of rock salt at the encroaching dark tendrils.

When the salt touched the shadow limbs, they hissed like hot iron in water and recoiled back into the wall crevices.

Daniel swung the sledgehammer with desperate fury. CRASH!

The modern drywall shattered, revealing the ancient, red-brick fireplace hidden behind it. In the center of the brickwork was a small, ornate cast-iron door sealed with faded red wax and crude Latin symbols.

“This is it!” Daniel shouted. He wedged the crowbar edge of the hammer into the seam of the iron door and pulled with all his might.

SNAP.

The ancient lock snapped. The iron door swung open, revealing a pitch-black cavity within the foundation.

Inside lay a small wooden box wrapped in silver wire, resting atop a pile of old, dusty clothes—a child’s sailor suit from the 1930s.

Suddenly, a powerful force slammed into Daniel’s chest, throwing him across the room into the coffee table. He groaned in pain, clutching his ribs.

I turned around and froze in terror.

Standing between us and the fireplace was the full form of The Forgotten Child. It had fully emerged from the wall cavity—a tall, gaunt figure made of shadow, dust, and decaying bone, its face a featureless mask with two hollow, burning white eyes.

It raised a pale, withered hand, and I felt an unbearable coldness wrap around my chest, squeezing the air from my lungs.
