Chapter 7 - The Cleansing Fire

The creature lunged at us, its jaw unhinging into a terrifying maw of pure darkness, reaching out to consume both of us before we could finish the ritual.

I struck the flint on the lighter.

A bright orange spark fell into the iron box.

FOOM!

A blinding column of blue and orange fire erupted from the small iron chamber. The flames consumed the hair, the silver medallion, and the drops of Daniel’s blood mixing with the fuel.

The creature stopped mid-air. Its screech turned from a menace into a agonizing wail of sorrow and release.

The fire didn't spread to the rest of the room; instead, it seemed to burn with an ethereal, mystical intensity, drawing the dark shadows out of the walls and into the flames like a cosmic vacuum.

The walls of the house shivered. The heavy thuds inside the ceiling ceased.

The creature’s terrifying form began to dissolve into harmless white light and ash. As its face melted away into the luminous glow, its expression transformed from a horrific monster into that of a small, lost boy.

“Thank you...” a soft, frail voice echoed in our minds, no longer cold, but warm and peaceful. “It’s... warm now...”

With a final flash of light, the shadow entity vanished completely. The suffocating cold lifted instantly, replaced by the natural, cool night air of the room.

The house fell dead silent.
