Chapter 8 - The Truth Revealed
An hour later, the boardroom was quiet again.
The board of directors had unanimously voted to strip Arthur of all corporate titles and reconfirm Adrian as CEO with absolute authority, permanently waiving the marriage clause in light of the criminal interference.
Adrian stood alone by the massive window, looking out over the city.
Tessa stepped into the room softly, holding her small leather bag. "Well... you won, Adrian. The board gave you 100% voting control. Arthur is going to federal prison. The company is yours forever."
Adrian didn't turn around immediately. "And your debt is cleared. Your grandmother's mortgage was paid off this morning. Your brother's medical trust has been fully funded."
Tessa swallowed hard, feeling a strange, heavy ache in her chest. "Right. The contract is fulfilled. I guess... I should go back home and start packing my things out of the estate."
She turned toward the door.
"Tessa, wait."
Adrian turned around. He looked exhausted, but his eyes were filled with an emotion she had never seen in him before.
He walked across the room, stopping inches in front of her.
"There’s one thing I lied to you about," Adrian said softly.
Tessa looked up, confused. "What?"
"The dashcam footage," Adrian said, taking a step closer. "My team retrieved that footage forty-eight hours after the crash. I knew my uncle caused the accident before I ever made you sign that contract."
Tessa froze, her eyes widening in shock. "What?! You knew Arthur forced my car into yours?!"
"Yes."
"Then why?!" Tessa yelled, slapping his arm in frustration. "Why did you force me to sign a four-million-dollar fake engagement contract?! Why did you bring me into your house?! Why did you put me through all this corporate insanity?!"
Adrian reached out, taking both of her hands into his, squeezing them tightly so she couldn't pull away.
"Because the moment I looked through the shattered window of your broken Honda Civic," Adrian whispered, his voice trembling with rare, raw vulnerability, "I saw a woman who looked at me without fear. A woman who didn't care about my money, my reputation, or my corporate empire. I saw a woman who made me feel alive for the first time in five years."
Tessa’s breath caught in her throat. Her heart thundered against her ribs.
"I didn't keep you here to save my company, Tessa," Adrian confessed, leaning down until his forehead rested gently against hers. "I kept you here because I was terrified that if I let you walk away that afternoon, I would lose the only light that ever entered my dark world."
Tessa stared into his eyes, seeing all the walls, all the icy barriers completely shattered.
"You are an arrogant, manipulative, infuriating man, Adrian Kang," Tessa whispered, tears pricking the corners of her hazel eyes.
"I know," Adrian murmured softly.
"And you still owe me a new Honda Civic."
"I’ll buy you a hundred Civics."

Adrian closed the distance between them, pulling her into his arms and kissing her with a deep, desperate, overwhelming passion that erased every memory of pain, debt, and fear.
