Chapter 6 - The Siege of the Estate

The panic room was a concrete bunker reinforced with two-inch steel walls, hidden deep beneath the estate’s wine cellar.

Inside, emergency lights illuminated small cots, food supplies, and security monitors displaying live camera feeds from around the estate.

Maya sat on the edge of a cot, holding a terrified Elena close to her chest. Dr. Mercer stood near the reinforced door, holding a small handgun with shaking hands.

On the security monitor mounted on the wall, Maya watched the nightmare unfold.

The estate’s courtyard had turned into a war zone. Muzzle flashes lit up the darkness as Dominic’s security team traded heavy fire with dozens of masked gunmen wearing Moretti tactical gear.

Dominic was a force of nature. He moved through the chaos with terrifying precision, taking down attackers with lethal efficiency, leading his men like a warlord defending his castle.

Suddenly, a heavy explosion rocked the monitor feed.

The main entrance doors of the mansion were blown inward by a breach charge. A tall, pale man with slicked-back grey hair stepped through the smoke, surrounded by five heavily armed mercenaries.

Julian Moretti.

Maya gasped as she recognized him from the intelligence files Dominic had shown her.

On the screen, Julian held a detonator in one hand and a high-caliber pistol in the other. He spoke into a tactical radio, his voice picked up by the security system microphone.

“Dominic!” Julian’s voice echoed through the estate speakers. “I know you’re listening! I didn't come here to wipe out your soldiers! I came for the girl!”

Maya’s blood ran cold.

“Bring me the girl who took my leverage,” Julian sneered into the camera. “Or I press this button and detonate three thermite charges placed along the foundation of your precious estate! Your daughter, your men, and your legacy will burn together!”

In the panic room, Dr. Mercer dropped his gun in despair. “God help us... thermite will melt through the steel doors in minutes...”

Elena began to cry, burying her face in Maya’s sweater. “Maya... I’m scared...”

Maya stared at the monitor screen. She saw Dominic emerge from the shadows near the grand staircase, covered in dust, blood dripping from a cut on his arm. His face was twisted in absolute rage as he faced Julian across the ruined foyer.

“You step one inch closer to the cellar, Julian, and I will rip your heart out with my bare hands!” Dominic snarled, his weapon raised.

“You don't have a choice, Dominic!” Julian yelled back, raising the detonator. “Give me the girl, or everyone dies right now!”

Maya looked down at Elena’s small, shaking hands. She looked at the monitor, seeing Dominic standing alone against an army, willing to die to protect her.

She knew what she had to do.

“Dr. Mercer,” Maya said quietly, her voice eerily calm. “Open the door.”

“What?” the doctor gasped. “Are you crazy? They’ll kill you!”

“If I stay here, we all die,” Maya said, standing up and smoothing down her sweater. She looked down at Elena, kneeling to kiss the little girl’s cheek. “Stay here, sweetie. Keep your eyes closed. Your papa will be here soon.”

“Maya, don't leave!” Elena cried out.

Maya stood tall, looked Dr. Mercer in the eye, and pointed at the control panel.

“Open the door. Now.”
