Chapter 10 - The Foundation of Love

Three years after the hospital incident, a new home was finished in the hills outside of Scranton. It wasn't a mansion. It was a beautiful, modest, hand-built house of wood and stone.
Marcus was standing on the porch, watching the sunset, when Khloe stepped out beside him, holding their second child.
"It’s beautiful," she said.
"It’s not perfect," Marcus replied, looking at the slightly uneven railing he had spent all day fixing.
"It’s the most perfect thing I’ve ever seen," she said.
He leaned down and kissed her. He had started his life as a man who wanted to own the world, and he had ended it as a man who finally understood that he didn't own anything at all. He was a father, a husband, and a builder.
He looked out at the rolling hills. He had lost the empire, the luxury, and the name, but he had found the only thing that could survive the wreckage of a billionaire’s life: a home that would never be put up for sale.
"Happy anniversary," he whispered.
