Chapter 10 - Home

The estate garden was bathed in the warm, golden light of late summer.

White silk ribbons fluttered in the gentle breeze from the surrounding oak trees. A long wooden table, stretched across the emerald lawn, was piled high with platters of fresh pasta, grilled meats, bowls of bright fruit, and fresh bread.

It wasn't a corporate mafia banquet. It was a family dinner.

Dressed in a simple, stunning white lace dress, Elena sat at the head of the table. Beside her sat Sofia, wearing a matching floral crown. Across from them, the quadruplets—looking sharp in dark trousers and white linen shirts—were busily passing plates of food back and forth, arguing good-naturedly over the last piece of garlic bread.

At the other end of the table, Daniel stood up, raising his glass of wine.

The table quieted down. The children looked up at their father, their faces bright and happy.

"A year ago," Daniel began, his deep voice carrying over the quiet breeze, "this house was empty. It was full of stone and marble, but it was dead. I thought my job was just to keep my sons alive until they were old enough to face the dark."

He looked at Elena, his eyes full of endless love and devotion.

"Then a storm brought a woman to my door. She didn't care about my money. She wasn't afraid of my name. She walked into my kitchen, grabbed a knife, and told me that as long as she was under this roof, nobody was going to go hungry, and nobody was going to fight alone."

Daniel walked down the length of the table, stopping right beside Elena’s chair. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a simple, beautiful platinum band set with a single, flawless diamond.

He knelt down on one knee on the green grass.

The quadruplets gasped in unison. Sofia clapped her hands over her mouth, her eyes wide with excitement.

"Elena Mancuso," Daniel said, his voice trembling slightly with emotion. "You saved my sons. You brought light back into this house. You gave my daughter a home, and you gave me a second chance at love. Will you make us the luckiest family in the world? Will you marry me?"

Elena looked down at the man who had fought armies for her daughter, the man who had rebuilt his entire world just to make a safe place for their family.

Tears of pure happiness streamed down her cheeks. She didn't hesitate for a single second.

"Yes," Elena whispered, her voice overflowing with love. "Yes, Daniel. Absolutely yes."

Daniel slipped the ring onto her finger and stood up, pulling her into a deep, passionate kiss as the entire garden erupted in cheers.

Luca, Matteo, Nico, Leo, and Sofia jumped up from their chairs, running over to wrap their arms around Daniel and Elena, creating a giant, chaotic group hug right there in the golden sunlight.

Leo pulled on Elena’s dress, looking up with a huge, bright smile. "Does this mean you're our mom now?"

Elena knelt down, pulling all five children tightly into her arms, looking up at Daniel, who was smiling down at them with tears of joy in his dark eyes.

"I've been your mom since the night I made the rigatoni, Leo," Elena smiled, pressing a kiss to his forehead. "And nobody is ever going to change that."

The rain was gone. The shadows had vanished. And in the heart of the Foretti estate, the kitchen was finally full of love, home, and family.
