Chapter 6 - The Vault in Zurich

Three weeks later.

The private jet owned by the Moretti family touched down smoothly on the rain-slicked runway of Zurich Airport, Switzerland.

The morning air was crisp and cool, carrying the scent of snow from the distant Alps. A motorcade of three dark luxury sedans sat waiting on the private tarmac, escorted by two local Swiss security vehicles.

Vincent stepped out of the jet, holding an umbrella over Seraphina as she descended the stairs.

She was dressed in an elegant cream wool coat, dark leather boots, and a black cashmere scarf. Over the past three weeks, under the care of Dr. Harris and the safety of the estate, her health had fully recovered. Her cheeks had regained their natural, healthy color, and the hollow fear in her hazel eyes had been replaced by a quiet, unshakeable confidence.

"How are you feeling?" Vincent asked as they settled into the back seat of the spacious sedan.

"Nervous," Seraphina admitted, looking out the tinted window at the pristine Swiss streets rolling by. "For two years, Switzerland meant a cold room with locked windows and nurses who didn't look me in the eye. It feels strange to come back as a free woman."

"You aren't just a free woman," Vincent reminded her, taking her hand gently. "You are here to claim what was stolen from you."

Twenty minutes later, the motorcade pulled up to the grand limestone entrance of the Banque Privée de Genève—one of the oldest and most secure private banking institutions in Europe.

The bank’s senior vice president, a distinguished gentleman with silver hair named Monsieur Laurent, was waiting personally at the private rear entrance. He bowed respectfully as Vincent and Seraphina entered the marble foyer.

"Don Moretti, Miss Moretti," Laurent said in refined, accented English. "It is an honor. The private deep-vault chamber on Sub-Level 4 has been prepared for your arrival per the instructions left by the late Dominick Moretti in 1998."

They were escorted down a private private elevator that descended deep beneath the earth, stopping at a massive, circular steel door that looked like the entrance to a fortress. Two armed Swiss guards stood at rigid attention beside a dual-biometric access panel.

"Under the original terms of the account," Laurent explained, gesturing to the heavy steel door, "the vault can only be opened through two simultaneous actions: the insertion of the master micro-key, and the biological voice recognition of Dominick Moretti’s blood heir."

Seraphina stepped forward, her heart beating fast against her ribs. She reached into her coat, pulled out the tarnished silver pendant, and extracted the tiny steel micro-key.

She inserted the key into the precision lock at the center of the vault panel.

CLICK.

A soft blue light swept over her face, scanning her hazel eyes. A computerized voice spoke from the wall speaker in soft German:

"Biological signature confirmed. Please state the authorization phrase."

Seraphina looked at Vincent. Vincent nodded encouragingly.

Seraphina took a deep breath, recalling the three words her father had written on the back of the 1998 photograph—the words Vincent had taught her during the flight across the Atlantic.

"Dominick, Julian, Claire," Seraphina spoke clearly into the microphone.

A heavy mechanical clunk echoed through the deep chamber, followed by the hiss of pneumatic pressure releasing. The massive ten-ton steel vault door slowly swung open, revealing a private, wood-paneled room illuminated by warm, recessed golden lighting.

Inside the vault sat three heavy steel deposit boxes, alongside a mahogany desk. On the desk sat a sealed glass frame containing a handwritten letter.

Seraphina walked slowly into the room, her eyes wet with tears as she approached the desk. She looked at the handwriting on the parchment inside the glass frame—the strong, flowing script of Dominick Moretti.

She read the letter aloud, her voice trembling with emotion:

"To my beloved daughter, Seraphina.

If you are reading these words, it means the darkness of the world did not consume you, and that my son, Vincent, has brought you safely home. Everything inside this vault—the primary shares of the Moretti enterprise, the global real estate deeds, and the private family reserve—was created to secure your future.

I could not give you my name while I lived, but I give you my entire legacy now. Walk beside your brother with your head held high. You are a Moretti. Nothing can ever take that away from you.

With eternal love, Your Father."

Seraphina covered her face with her hands, letting out a soft, beautiful sob of pure catharsis. Vincent stepped up behind her, putting his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close against his side as she wept against his coat.

"He loved you, Seraphina," Vincent whispered softly. "He spent his whole life making sure you would have this day."

May you like

She looked up at Vincent, wiping her tears away, a radiant, dazzling smile breaking across her face. "And he gave me a brother to make sure I wasn't alone."

Vincent smiled back—a genuine, warm smile that transformed his sharp, intimidating face entirely. "No," he said, opening the first steel deposit box, revealing stacks of legal bearer bonds and global corporate titles worth hundreds of millions. "You will never be alone again."
