Chapter 4 - The Legal Siege

The next morning arrived under a heavy gray fog that blanketed the luxury neighborhood of Las Lomas de Chapultepec.

At 7:45 AM, three sleek black sedans carrying official government emblems pulled up to the high iron gates of the Villaseñor estate.

Inside the mansion's private study, Diego sat behind his massive mahogany desk. Opposite him sat Mateo Vance—a sharp, fifty-year-old lawyer with silver hair, piercing blue eyes, and a reputation for crushing political opponents in court.

Marisol sat in a leather armchair beside Diego, dressed neatly, holding a cup of untouched chamomile tea.

"The strategy is simple, Diego," Mateo said, laying out several crisp legal folders on the desk. "Senator Robles is using his political pull with the Ministry of Child Welfare to create a public scandal. They want to scare Marisol into fleeing with the child, which would allow them to frame you as a corrupt billionaire embroiled in a messy custody scandal, ruining your pending Santa Fe commercial bids."

"How do we stop them?" Diego asked flatly.

"We don't stop them from entering," Mateo grinned slyly. "We welcome them in. We turn their ambush into their own trap."

The front doorbell chimed through the grand hall.

Estepan opened the doors, revealing a delegation of four people: two uniformed officers from the Child Protective Agency, a state prosecutor, and Senator Don Roberto Robles himself—a tall, arrogant man in a tailored gray suit, his silver hair neatly slicked back, exuding the cold arrogance of a veteran politician.

Beside the Senator stood Paulina, wearing dark sunglasses and a designer coat, looking triumphant.

"Where is Diego Villaseñor?" Senator Robles demanded, pushing past Estepan into the foyer without waiting for an invitation. "We are here on an emergency warrant to inspect the safety and legal custody of a minor residing illegally on these premises!"

"You don't need a warrant, Senator," a voice echoed from the top of the stairs.

Diego descended the staircase slowly, flanked by Mateo Vance.

"Welcome to my home, Don Roberto," Diego said, his tone dripping with quiet sarcasm. "I see you brought your daughter to watch you abuse your public office."

Paulina sneered behind her sunglasses. "Save it, Diego! You threw me out like trash! Today, child services is taking that dirty little girl into state custody until paternity and immigration status are verified!"

"Is that so?" Mateo Vance stepped forward, pulling a gold pen from his coat. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Mateo Vance, chief legal counsel for the Villaseñor estate."

The state prosecutor’s face paled instantly upon recognizing the famous litigator. "Mr. Vance... we were not informed you were representing—"

"You were not informed because Senator Robles filed this emergency petition at 11:00 PM last night through a corrupt family judge in district three," Mateo cut in sharply, stepping right into the prosecutor's space. "A judge who, coincidentally, received a $200,000 campaign contribution from the Robles Foundation last month."

Senator Robles's jaw tightened. "That is libel!"

"That is a certified financial trail verified by the Federal Audit Office three hours ago," Mateo countered smoothly, handing a stamped document to the prosecutor. "Furthermore, here is the official, court-certified emergency paternity order executed at 5:00 AM this morning, along with the DNA reference samples collected by an independent certified medical team."

Mateo leaned in closer to the Senator. "And here is a copy of Marisol Parker’s official legal representation papers, filing a civil countersuit against Paulina Robles for harassment, defamation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress upon a minor."

Paulina gasped, taking a step back behind her father. "Father... do something!"
