Chapter 6 - The Unraveling of the Robles Empire

The fallout from Senator Don Roberto Robles’s failed ambush at the Villaseñor mansion was swift, brutal, and public.

Mateo Vance didn't just defend Diego and Marisol; he launched an aggressive, multi-pronged counter-offensive. Within forty-eight hours of the child services fiasco, Mateo released the financial audit trail proving Senator Robles’s illicit campaign contributions and his back-channel coordination with the district judge to tamper with family court jurisdiction.

The story hit the front pages of every major newspaper in Mexico City: "SENATOR ROBLES USES GOVERNMENT OFFICE IN DESPERATE PLOT AGAINST BILLIONAIRE'S FAMILY."

The political backlash was instantaneous. The ethics committee of the Senate suspended Don Roberto’s legislative powers pending a formal corruption probe. Suddenly, a man who had wielded unchecked power across Santa Fe and Las Lomas de Chapultepec found himself abandoned by his political allies, dodging reporters outside his own estate.

Inside the Villaseñor mansion, however, the atmosphere was a stark, peaceful contrast to the chaos raging outside.

The official DNA paternity test results arrived on Wednesday morning from an independent federal laboratory. The document was clean, unambiguous, and absolute: Diego Villaseñor is the biological father of Valentina Villaseñor Parker.

Diego sat at the grand mahogany desk in his private study, holding the official certificate in his hands. Marisol sat across from him on the sofa, holding a cup of coffee while Valentina played quietly on the Persian rug with a brand-new set of wooden building blocks, her little gray rabbit resting nearby.

"We need to file the paperwork for her birth certificate correction immediately," Mateo Vance said, standing near the window. "We are adding your surname, Diego. Full legal rights, inheritance status, and dual guardianship for Marisol."

"Do it today, Mateo," Diego said, his eyes never leaving Valentina as she successfully stacked three blocks high and clapped her hands in quiet triumph. "Spare no expense. I want her name locked down by the end of the week."

"Done," Mateo replied, gathering his folders. "And as for Paulina and her father... their corporate shares in the Santa Fe hotel consortium have plummeted. Several major investors are pulling out because they don't want to be associated with a disgraced senator. If you want to buy out their remaining twenty percent stake, the market price has dropped by half."

Diego looked up, a cold, sharp smile touching the corners of his lips. "Buy it all, Mateo. Every single share. Let them see that the empire they tried to use as a weapon against my family is now the instrument of their financial erasure."

As Mateo left the study, Marisol walked over to Diego’s desk. She placed a hand on his shoulder, her dark eyes filled with a mix of awe and lingering disbelief.

"Diego... is this really happening?" Marisol whispered softly. "Sometimes I feel like I'm going to wake up and still be scrubbing those kitchen floors."

Diego stood up, wrapped his arms around her waist, and pulled her close against his chest. He rested his chin on the top of her head.

"You are never going back to the kitchen, Marisol," Diego murmured, his voice deep and absolute. "You are the mistress of this house. You are the mother of my child. And very soon... I hope you will be my wife."

Marisol’s breath hitched. She looked up into his eyes, seeing a depth of devotion that dissolved every lingering fear from her past.

Before she could answer, Valentina toddled over, holding a wooden block out toward them. "Look, Daddy! House!"

Diego knelt down, scooping Valentina up into his arms, laughing as she planted a messy, affectionate kiss right on his cheek. Marisol laughed, wrapping her arms around both of them.

Yet, miles away in a sterile, dark study in Polanco, Paulina Robles was staring at a glowing laptop screen, watching her family's empire crumble—and she was plotting one final, catastrophic move.
