Chapter 10 - Unbroken Horizons

Five years later.
The summer sea breeze blew gently across the private beach behind the Brooks family lake house in Michigan.
Twelve-year-old Ava was sitting on a blanket near the water’s edge, reading a book, her long dark hair fluttering in the breeze. Eleven-year-old Noah was out on the calm water with a paddleboard, shouting happily as he balanced against the small waves.
On the porch swing, Daniel sat enjoying the late afternoon sun, holding a mug of warm coffee.
Beside him sat Clara—a kind, warm-hearted pediatric therapist who had spent two years helping Noah and Ava heal from their trauma, and who had slowly, beautifully earned a place in all of their hearts.
"They're so strong, Daniel," Clara whispered softly, resting her hand over his on the armrest. "Look at them. You saved them."
Daniel looked out at his children under the golden sky. The scars of the past were gone, replaced by absolute confidence, happiness, and an unbreakable bond of trust.
"We saved each other, Clara," Daniel replied softly, leaning over to kiss her cheek.

There were no more dark pantries, no more hidden tapes, and no more fear in the dark. Daniel Brooks had fought the darkest storm of his life to protect his children, and now, under the bright, eternal light of love, their family was finally home forever.
