Chapter 9 - The Garden of Light

One year later.
The sun shone brightly over the rolling green hills of the Brooks estate, painting the gardens in deep gold and warm emerald.
The dark, cold atmosphere that had once hung over the mansion was completely gone. The heavy mahogany furniture had been replaced with warm, bright wood; the drapes were thrown wide open, letting in streams of sunlight and fresh spring air.
On the wide back lawn, seven-year-old Noah was kicking a soccer ball toward a small net set up near the oak trees, while eight-year-old Ava was sitting on a wooden bench, laughing happily as she painted a picture of the garden.
Daniel stepped out onto the patio, carrying a tray of fresh lemonade and fruit slices.
He wore comfortable casual clothes—a linen shirt and jeans. Over the past twelve months, Daniel had restructured Brooks Global Logistics, stepping down as CEO to become Chairman of the Board, handing daily operations to his trusted executive team so he could spend every single afternoon at home with his children.
"Daddy! Look!" Noah cheered, kicking the ball straight into the top corner of the net. "I scored!"
"Great shot, buddy!" Daniel laughed, walking down the stone steps into the grass, dropping to one knee to give Noah a big high-five.
Ava ran over, holding up her painting. It showed a big, beautiful house under a bright blue sky, with three figures standing hand-in-hand in the center—a tall man and two smiling children.
"It's us, Daddy," Ava smiled, her amber eyes sparkling with complete health, joy, and peace. "See? We're all together."

Daniel felt a profound wave of warmth wash through his chest, tears of deep gratitude filling his eyes. He pulled both of his children into his broad arms, lifting them up into the air as they squealed with laughter.
Mrs. Gable stood on the patio, watching them with a warm, tearful smile, holding a tray of freshly baked cookies.
