Chapter 20 - The Golden Harvest

The autumn of 2026 arrived with a warmth that made the entire Castilian valley look like a sheet of gold. The vines were heavy with massive, dark clusters of Tempranillo grapes, their skins dusty with the natural yeast that would soon transform them into the estate's legendary wine.

It was the first day of the harvest, and the entire community had gathered in the main courtyard of the villa.

Tables made of rough-hewn oak were set up under the shade of the ancient olive trees, laden with fresh bread, local cheeses, roasted meats, and bottles of the newly released Calderón Reserve. The air was filled with the sound of music, laughter, and the rhythmic, steady clinking of glasses.

Álvaro stood on the stone steps of the villa, looking out over the beautiful, vibrant crowd. He wore a simple, clean linen shirt, his gray eyes peaceful and filled with an overwhelming, profound reverence for the family and community he had protected.

Beside him stood Sofia, her hands interlocked with his, her face filled with a quiet, mutual respect for the son who had held the line.

"Look at them, Álvaro," Sofia whispered, her eyes shining with happy tears. "The rescue is finally complete. The dark is gone."

"It's gone, Mama," Álvaro murmured, his deep voice carrying an unshakeable, permanent strength. "And it’s never coming back."

He raised his glass, and the entire courtyard fell silent, every face turning toward the patron who had led them through the fire and the storm.

"To our family," Álvaro said, his voice carrying over the quiet valley. "To the land that feeds us, the loyalty that binds us, and the peace we have earned together. May our roots always go deep, and may our harvest always be golden."

"Salud!" the crowd roared in unison, their glasses raised to the blue sky.

Tomás and Maria stood close together, their faces filled with gratitude. Mateo raised his glass to Álvaro with a proud, respectful nod. Lara stood near the security gate, her expression relaxed, knowing her vigilance was now backed by a peace that could never be broken.

And as the sun climbed higher into the clear Castilian sky, casting long, golden beams of light across the beautiful valley, they stood together—the living testament to a promise kept, a legacy secured, and a family that had finally come home to stay forever.
