Chapter 6 - The New Foundation

Three months later, the rain was falling again over Chicago, but this time, it felt like a blessing rather than a threat.

The grand lobby of Harrison Global had been completely rebuilt, featuring a brand-new, modern entryway and a stunning bronze plaque mounted near the revolving doors.

Crowds gathered in the lobby for a very special announcement. Reporters, investors, and city officials stood shoulder-to-shoulder, watching as Daniel Harrison stepped up to the podium, wearing a sharp navy suit.

Standing right beside him, wearing a lovely yellow dress and a white cardigan, was Emily. Her hair was neatly braided, and around her neck hung a delicate silver pendant shaped like an open book—a gift from Daniel to celebrate her official adoption finalized by the courts the week before.

"Thank you all for coming," Daniel’s voice rang out, strong, clear, and resonant through the grand hall.

The cameras flashed, capturing the bright, genuine smile on the billionaire's face—a smile the business world had never seen before he met the little girl standing by his side.

"Six months ago, this company nearly fell victim to greed, betrayal, and violence," Daniel continued, his eyes scanning the crowd. "We survived not because of our security systems, not because of our financial reserves, but because of a nine-year-old girl who listened when others were deaf, who understood a language others dismissed, and who had the extraordinary courage to step forward when danger was at the door."

Applause rippled through the lobby, warm and enthusiastic.

"Today, I am proud to announce the launch of the Chen-Harrison Global Foundation," Daniel announced, pointing to the grand banner unfurling behind the stage. "A fifty-million-dollar philanthropic initiative dedicated to funding bilingual education programs, orphan support networks, and community safety initiatives across the Midwest, named in honor of my daughter’s grandmother, whose wisdom saved a life."

Emily’s eyes shone with pride as she looked up at her father.

When Daniel finished his speech, he leaned down, picking her up into his arms, and walked off the stage amidst a thunderous, standing ovation from the entire company.

The rain beat softly against the reinforced glass windows of the lobby, but inside, the light was warm, golden, and permanent.
