Chapter 10 - A New Horizon
The sun was setting over the ocean, painting the sky in brilliant shades of pink, gold, and deep violet.
Emily stood on the wooden deck of a beautiful beach house that she and Julian had recently purchased. The gentle sound of the waves crashing against the shore was a soothing, continuous lullaby that brought a deep sense of peace to her soul.
She felt a pair of strong, warm arms wrap around her waist from behind. Julian rested his chin on her shoulder, inhaling the scent of her hair.
"What are you thinking about?" Julian whispered, his voice soft against her ear.
"Just how far we’ve come," Emily said, turning in his arms to face him. She reached up, her fingers gently tracing his jawline. "A year ago, I was skipping meals to buy textbooks, terrified of my own shadow, and wondering if I’d ever escape my family's cage. Now, I’m standing here with the man I love, helping hundreds of students build their dreams, and living a life I never thought was possible."
"You deserve every bit of this happiness, Emily," Julian said, his eyes filled with a deep, unwavering devotion. "You fought through hell to get here. You are the strongest, most resilient woman I’ve ever known."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box.
Emily’s breath caught in her throat.
Julian dropped to one knee, holding the box open. Inside was a breathtaking ring—a brilliant, ethically sourced emerald flanked by delicate diamonds, reflecting the colors of the sunset.
"Emily Bennett," Julian said, his voice thick with emotion. "You showed me what true courage is. You healed my brother's spirit, and you captured my heart completely. I want to spend the rest of my life protecting you, supporting you, and building a world of truth and love with you. Will you marry me?"
Tears of pure, unadulterated joy welled in Emily’s eyes. She didn't hesitate for a single second.
"Yes, Julian," she whispered, her voice choked with happiness. "A million times, yes."
Julian slid the ring onto her finger, standing up and spinning her around in his arms as they laughed, their joy echoing across the empty beach. He pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss, a promise of a beautiful, peaceful future.
They stood together on the deck, hand in hand, watching the sun disappear beneath the horizon.
