Chapter 8 - The Pre-Dawn Intrusion

The clock on the boardroom wall clicked silently toward 3:00 AM. The Valle International headquarters was shrouded in deep shadows, save for the emergency exit lights casting a crimson glow across the pristine white marble floors.
On the forty-sixth floor, the security monitoring station flickered. Two figures dressed entirely in black tactical gear moved stealthily past the primary elevator bank, bypassing the silent biometric scanners using a high-grade military signal jammer. They moved with professional, terrifying efficiency.
Victor Thorne led the way, a silenced sidearm glinting faintly in the dim light. Behind him was a hired mercenary carrying a heavy digital data-siphon device designed to breach the corporate mainframe.
“Easy work,” Victor whispered into his comm-link, crouching near the double doors of Charlotte’s executive office. “The girl left the primary firewall logs open. We plant the corrupted files, wipe her digital clearance credentials, and leave enough forged evidence to make it look like she embezzled the funds herself.”
They slipped inside the executive office, moving toward the mahogany desk where the master terminal glowed faintly in standby mode. The mercenary dropped to his knees, immediately plugging the data-siphon cable into the main terminal port.
“Downloading payload now,” the mercenary hissed. “Ten seconds until clearance override.”
Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the office swung open with a resounding thud.
Floodlights blazed on instantly, blinding the intruders with an overwhelming wall of white light.
“Don't move!” a deep, commanding chorus of voices echoed through the room.
Before Victor could raise his weapon, half a dozen heavily armed federal marshals and corporate security operatives swarmed the room from all sides, pinning both men face-down onto the plush carpet before they could even blink.
The overhead lights clicked fully on.
Charlotte stepped into the doorway, wearing a sharp charcoal blazer over a black silk blouse. She walked slowly toward the desk, looking down at the pinned intruders with absolute calm.

Victor spat onto the carpet, struggling against the heavy zip-ties binding his wrists behind his back. “You set us up!”
“No, Victor,” Charlotte replied smoothly, leaning down slightly to retrieve the data-siphon device from the terminal port. “You walked right into an open vault. My grandfather and I were expecting you.”
