Chapter 7 - The Grandfather's Legacy

When Adrian returned home that evening, we sat together in the quiet sanctuary of the library, the fire crackling in the hearth.

On the high-definition screen above the fireplace, we played the digital file recovered from Victoria’s leather pouch.

The video lit up.

An older man with silver hair, sharp grey eyes, and a kindly smile appeared on the screen, sitting in a wheelchair by a sunlit window. It was Julian Vale, three weeks before his passing.

"Adrian, my boy," Julian’s rich, gentle voice filled the quiet room. Adrian sat beside me, his hand gripping mine so tightly his knuckles turned white.

"If you are watching this video," Julian spoke into the camera, "it means my wife, Eleanor, has failed to ruin your future. I know my health is fading, Adrian. And I know Eleanor is terrified of losing control of Vale Harbor. I have seen her scheming. I know she has been threatening the sweet girl you love—Elena."

Adrian let out a shuddering breath, a single tear escaping his eye.

"Elena is a woman of rare grace and strength, Adrian," Julian continued, smiling warmly through the screen. "She didn't care about our family's money. She loved you for the man you were when you weren't wearing a suit. And if she is carrying my grandchild, know this: that child is the true blessing of the Vale bloodline."

Julian reached out toward the camera, holding a small velvet box.

"I have hidden a private key inside the family vault at First National Bank. Account number 1890. It contains the land deed to the North Cliff Estate in Maine—the house I built with my own hands before Vale Harbor became an empire. It belongs to Elena and your child. Build a life there, my son. Away from the greed, away from the lies."

The screen faded to black.

The silence in the library was profound.

Adrian covered his face with his hands, his shoulders shaking as seven years of grief, anger, and hidden guilt finally broke free. I wrapped my arms around him, holding him tight, letting his tears soak into my shoulder.

"He knew, Elena," Adrian sobbed softly against my neck. "My father knew... he tried to save us."

"And he did save us, Adrian," I whispered, kissing his hair softly. "He gave us the truth. He gave us a way back to each other."
