Chapter 10 - BEST FAMILY FOREVER

Three years later.
The summer sun washed over the lush, green gardens of the Vance Estate. The air smelled of blooming roses, fresh lavender, and sweet morning pine.
A long, elegant wooden dining table was set under the shade of the grand marble terrace, decorated with fresh flowers, delicious food, and crystal glasses that sparkled in the afternoon light.
Laughter echoed across the lawn. Mrs. Gable was bustled around the table, setting down freshly baked pastries, while Dr. Thorne sat in a wicker armchair, chatting warmly with Rebecca Sloan.
Hannah walked out onto the terrace wearing a simple, breathtaking pale-yellow sundress. At nineteen, she had officially enrolled in the Business Honors program at Northwestern University, while serving as a junior trustee on the board of Vance Global.
Her hair fell in soft waves past her shoulders, her skin held a healthy, golden glow, and her eyes sparkled with serene, unburdened happiness.
Arthur walked over to her from the garden steps, wearing a tailored linen suit. He looked younger, happier, his sharp face softened by years of peace and genuine family warmth.
He reached out, placing a warm arm gently around her shoulders.
"Are you ready for the toast, Hannah?" Arthur asked with a smile.
Hannah looked at her uncle, leaning her head affectionately against his shoulder.
"I am," she replied softly.
They walked over to the long dining table together, joining Mrs. Gable, Dr. Thorne, Rebecca, and several close friends who had become their true family over the years.
Arthur raised his glass of sparkling cider, looking around the table at the faces of the people he loved.
"Six years ago," Arthur began, his voice clear, rich, and filled with emotion, "I walked out into a freezing snowstorm on a dark Chicago street. I thought I was just looking for a piece of my past. But instead, I found the future of our family."
Arthur turned to look at Hannah, his eyes shining with deep gratitude.
"To Hannah," Arthur declared, raising his glass high. "Who survived the darkest storm, reclaimed her light, and brought warmth back into this house."
"To Hannah!" everyone at the table cheered warmly, clinking their glasses together.
Hannah looked down at her lap, where her mother’s silver locket rested against her dress. Inside the locket was a small, beautiful photograph of her mother Clara on one side, and a picture of her and Uncle Arthur taken at her high school graduation on the other.
She looked out at the sunny garden, feeling the warm summer breeze sweep through her hair.
She remembered the freezing rain, the metal taste of despair, and the expensive shoes that had stopped three feet away from her on the wet concrete.
She had trusted a stranger in the dark—and in doing so, she had found her uncle, her home, her justice, and a love that would protect her for the rest of her life.

Hannah smiled, picked up her glass, and raised it toward the clear blue sky.
"To family," Hannah whispered softly. "To forever."
