Chapter 8 - CLEANING THE HOUSE

The fallout from the gala was swift and absolute.
By the following morning, news of Richard Sterling's arrest dominated every major financial and news network worldwide. The headline on the Wall Street Journal read: “VANCE GLOBAL HEIR SURVIVES ARSON, EXPOSES CORPORATE MURDER AT GALA.”
With Sterling and his accomplices locked in federal holding cells awaiting trial without bail, Arthur convened an emergency meeting of the Vance Global Board of Directors.
Sitting at the head of the long mahogany table in the top-floor executive suite was fourteen-year-old Hannah, flanked by Arthur and Rebecca Sloan.
The remaining board members—who had previously been intimidated by Sterling— sat in complete, respectful silence as Arthur presented the reorganization strategy.
"By court order," Rebecca stated, placing the legal documents on the table, "Hannah Vance's forty percent share, combined with Arthur Vance's thirty percent share, constitutes a seventy-percent absolute majority control of Vance Global Logistics."
Arthur stood up, looking around the table at the executives.
"The board will immediately vote to terminate all contracts associated with Sterling’s shell companies," Arthur commanded, his voice filled with authority. "Furthermore, twenty percent of all corporate dividends moving forward will be directed into the newly established Clara Vance Foundation, dedicated to providing shelter, education, and medical care for homeless children across Chicago."
The board members immediately raised their hands in unanimous, enthusiastic approval.
After the meeting concluded, Hannah walked over to the floor-to-ceiling glass window of the executive suite, looking out over the Chicago skyline. Below lay the streets where she had once walked shoeless, shivering, and invisible in the rain.
Arthur walked up beside her, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"You did remarkably well today, Hannah," he said softly.

Hannah turned to look at him, a genuine, radiant smile illuminating her face. "We did it, Uncle Arthur. Mom's name is clean."
"Yes, it is," Arthur agreed, his eyes warm with pride. "And now, it’s time for you to live the life she wanted for you."
