Chapter 7 - THE ARCHITECT'S TOWER

The meeting location was an unfinished skyscraper in the heart of the financial district—a sixty-story glass tower that had been funded by Hale Holdings before the scandal broke. The building was a hollow shell of steel beams, exposed concrete, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the glittering city lights below.

A howling wind whistled through the open construction floors as Ethan stepped out of the industrial elevator on the top floor.

Standing near the edge of the floor, framed by the dark night sky and rain-streaked glass, was Olivia. She wore a sleek black coat, her dark hair pulled back, looking as composed and lethal as ever. Two armed men in unmarked tactical gear stood a few paces behind her.

"You brought a lot of memories with you tonight, Ethan," Olivia said, her voice echoing over the sound of the wind.

"End the cyberattack, Olivia," Ethan said, stopping ten feet away. "It's over. Your father is in federal custody. Your shell accounts are frozen. There is nowhere left to run."

Olivia laughed—a cold, metallic sound. "You still don't understand, do you? I never cared about the money, Ethan. I had money. What I created was order. You were a chaotic, brilliant mess when I found you. I turned you into a god of industry. And instead of thanking me, you let a pathetic ghost from your past destroy everything we built!"

"Nora isn't a ghost!" Ethan shouted over the wind. "She’s real! My daughter is real! The life you stole from me was the only thing that actually mattered!"

Olivia took a step toward the ledge, holding a small, hardened military satellite transmitter. "Inside this drive is the master deletion command. In two minutes, it will permanently wipe Parker Tech’s global network. You will be ruined. The world will see you as a failed visionary who let his empire burn."

"And what do you get out of it?" Ethan asked, taking a slow, calculated step forward.

"I get to watch you become nothing again," Olivia snarled, her fingers hovering over the detonator key. "Just like the day I met you."

"You forgot one thing, Olivia," Ethan said quietly, pulling a small silver device from his pocket and pressing a button.

The lights across the construction floor suddenly flared to life with blinding intensity. The heavy whir of drone rotors filled the air as four federal police drones descended outside the glass perimeter, their searchlights pinning Olivia and her guards in bright white beams.

"I didn't write those security keys eight years ago," Ethan revealed, his voice steady. "I wrote a backup fail-safe three days ago, knowing you would use my old code. My engineering team bypassed your malware ten minutes ago. I came here just to keep you occupied while the FBI tracked your broadcast signal."

Olivia’s eyes widened in horror as federal agents poured out from the stairwells, weapons raised. "Drop the device! Hands where we can see them!"

Olivia looked at the transmitter, then at Ethan, realizing her grand narrative had finally collapsed. The control she had weaponized for a decade was shattered. In a moment of pure, desperate fury, she lunged toward the edge, throwing the drive into the dark abyss below—but Daniel’s team tackled her to the concrete floor before she could jump.

As she was cussed and handcuffed, Olivia glared up at Ethan, her polished facade completely dismantled. "You'll never be whole, Ethan! You're still broken!"

Ethan looked down at her with calm pity. "I was broken when I let you dictate my life. But I'm whole now."
