Chapter 8 - THE HEALING OF MEMORY

Three months later.

The high-profile trial of the Hale family had dominated global news, but inside the quiet courtroom, the truth was finally codified into law. Olivia and Richard Hale received extensive federal prison sentences for kidnapping, illegal medical experimentation, corporate fraud, and conspiracy.

All of Ethan’s original contracts were legally voided on grounds of coercion and incapacity. Parker Tech was restructured into an ethical technology foundation, with a significant portion of its shares placed into a trust dedicated to victims of corporate exploitation and memory trauma research.

It was a crisp, clear spring afternoon when Ethan sat in the office of Dr. Sarah Lin, a renowned neuro-specialist who had been helping him process his recovered memories.

"The pharmacological suppressants Olivia used were designed to lock away episodic memory while keeping cognitive and analytical skills intact," Dr. Lin explained, showing Ethan a digital scan of his brain activity. "That's why you could run a company, but had panic attacks at 3:17 a.m. Your subconscious was fighting the block every single night."

"Will the missing pieces ever come back completely?" Ethan asked.

"They already are," Dr. Lin smiled softly. "Memory isn't stored like data on a hard drive, Mr. Parker. It's tied to emotion and human connection. The more time you spend with Nora and Mia, the more those neural pathways will rebuild themselves naturally."

Ethan thanked the doctor and walked out into the warm afternoon sunlight.

Waiting for him on the bench in the courtyard were Nora and Mia. Mia was wearing a bright yellow dress, holding a sketchbook and coloring pencils, while Nora sat beside her, laughing as Mia drew a wildly inaccurate portrait of Daniel wearing a judge's wig.

Ethan walked over and sat down beside them, pulling Mia onto his lap.

"Look, Daddy!" Mia said proudly, holding up her drawing. "I drew Uncle Daniel giving the bad lady a timeout!"

Ethan chuckled, kissing the top of Mia’s head. "It's perfect, sweetie. We should frame it for his office."

Nora looked at Ethan, her dark eyes warm and serene. "How did the appointment go?"

"The doctor said I'm going to be just fine," Ethan said, taking Nora’s hand in his, feeling the warmth of her skin. "In fact, I've never been clearer in my life."

"Where are we going now?" Mia asked, bouncing on Ethan’s knee.

Ethan looked at Nora, a conspiratorial smile spreading across his face. "Well, I bought a little piece of property north of the city. It has a lake, a huge garden, and... a yellow house that needs a fresh coat of paint."
