Chapter 9 - The Final Stand

The battle for Moretti Atlantic reached its climax at midnight at Pier 42—the primary shipping terminal controlling the Hudson freight lines.

Victor Rossi and Lorenzo Falcone had assembled thirty armed enforcers at the docks, preparing to force a fraudulent cargo transfer that would permanently strip Gabriel of his port license.

Rain poured from the black night sky as black SUVs roared onto the pier, blocking all exit routes.

Gabriel stepped out of the lead vehicle, flanked by forty heavily armed Moretti guards. Beside him stood Marco and Emma, who refused to stay behind at the safehouse.

Victor Rossi stood on the elevated loading dock, holding a briefcase of forged deeds, flanked by Lorenzo Falcone.

"You're too late, Gabriel!" Rossi shouted over the sound of rain and roaring waves. "The board signed over the port management twenty minutes ago! You have no liquidity left!"

Gabriel raised a sleek satellite tablet in his hand. "Check your accounts, Victor."

Rossi frowned, pulling out his encrypted phone. His face instantly drained of color as he saw the notification: MORETTI TRUST ACTIVATED. ALL FALCONE AND ROSSI ACCOUNTS FROZEN UNDER FEDERAL MONEY LAUNDERING SEIZURE WARRANTS.

"How... how did you bypass the court injunction?!" Rossi screamed in panic.

"Because while you were playing corporate games, my wife retrieved the master trust drive," Gabriel announced, his voice booming over the storm. "And federal prosecutors have just received Elena’s original letter along with your offshore transaction logs."

Lorenzo Falcone realized he had been backed into a corner. He drew his sidearm, turning toward Rossi. "You lied to me, Rossi! You said he was broke!"

A chaotic firefight erupted across the docks.

Moretti enforcers moved in with tactical precision. Lorenzo Falcone tried to flee toward a waiting speedboat, but Marco cut him off, tackling him to the wet wooden deck and placing him under arrest.

Victor Rossi ran toward the edge of the cargo crane platform, trying to escape into the darkness.

Gabriel pursued him up the metal stairs, cornering him fifty feet above the churning river below.

Rossi backed up against the safety railing, drenched in rain, pointing a shaking handgun at Gabriel. "Stay back, Gabriel! I helped your father build this empire!"

"You killed Elena," Gabriel said, stepping forward without fear, his dark eyes burning with absolute retribution. "You threatened my children. You framed the woman I love."

Rossi fired a wild shot, but Gabriel dodged, grabbing Rossi's arm, twisting the gun out of his hand, and slamming him face-first against the iron railing.

The gun dropped into the dark water below.

Rossi wept in terror. "Please, Gabriel! Have mercy!"

Gabriel held him over the railing for a long, heavy moment. The urge to toss the traitor into the icy current burned fiercely in his chest.

Then he looked down at the dock below, where Emma stood watching him, her face filled with love and trust.

Gabriel pulled Rossi back onto the platform, throwing him hard onto the steel floor into the hands of approaching federal agents.

"Mercy isn't for you, Victor," Gabriel said coldly. "Justice is."
