Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

That evening, the grand dining room of Chicago’s finest rooftop restaurant was reserved for a private party of two.
The city lights sparkled below them like a field of fallen stars. Lake Michigan was calm, reflecting the brilliant moon.
Damiano raised his glass of Brunello wine.
"To the smartest, bravest, and most magnificent woman in this city," Damiano said, his dark eyes shining with deep affection and unwavering respect. "To Penelope."
Penelope clinked her glass against his. "To new beginnings, Damiano. And to never judging a book by its cover."
Damiano reached across the table, sliding a sleek velvet box toward her.
Penelope opened it to reveal a custom-designed ring featuring a rare, radiant emerald surrounded by brilliant diamonds—a symbol of strength, rebirth, and eternal loyalty.
"Penelope," Damiano said, his voice thick with genuine emotion as he looked into her eyes. "You saved my life. You restored my honor. But more than that, you showed me what true strength looks like. I don't want a partner who bows to me. I want a queen who stands beside me. Will you build this new life with me?"
Penelope looked at the ring, then up at Damiano—the man who had once mocked her from across a grocery register, but who now looked at her with pure devotion, treasuring every inch of who she was.
She smiled—a brilliant, dazzling smile that lit up the entire room.
"On one condition, Signor Bianchi," she said softly, taking his hand.
"Anything," Damiano promised.
"You let me handle the grocery shopping from now on."

Damiano threw his head back and laughed—a rich, joyful sound that echoed out over the glittering skyline of Chicago. He pulled her into his arms, kissing her with a fierce, tender passion that sealed their promise under the starlight.
Penelope Brooks was no longer hiding. She was no longer running. She was a champion, a survivor, and the absolute ruler of her own destiny—standing tall, loved, and victorious beside the man who adored her precisely as she was.
