Chapter 10 - THE HOUSE OF LIGHT

One year later.

The Costa estate sat bathed in the warm, golden light of a summer afternoon.

The iron security gates were wide open, letting in the cool sea breeze. Armed guards still patrolled the perimeter, but the cold, suffocating atmosphere of fear that had once hung over the compound was completely gone.

In the backyard garden, six-year-old Leo was running through the grass, playing fetch with the Belgian Malinois dogs, his happy laughter ringing through the warm air.

On the panoramic sun terrace, Maya sat in a large, comfortable wicker rocking chair, wearing a floral summer dress.

In her arms, wrapped in a soft yellow blanket, slept a newborn baby girl—Elena Lily Costa.

Damian stepped out onto the terrace, carrying two glasses of fresh iced tea. He wore a simple white linen shirt and dark trousers, looking relaxed, peaceful, and deeply content.

He set the glasses on the table, then walked over, kneeling beside Maya’s chair. He looked down at his sleeping baby daughter, then up at his breathtaking wife.

"She has your mouth," Damian smiled softly, reaching out to gently brush the baby's soft dark hair.

"And she has your stubborn jaw," Maya teased gently, leaning her head against Damian’s cheek.

Damian wrapped his large, warm hand over Maya’s, looking out over the sparkling ocean, listening to his son’s laughter in the garden below.

He thought back to the rainy night at Lenox Hill Hospital—to the blood on the floor, the sound of sirens, and the fierce, bleeding cleaning lady who had stood between his dying son and a hitman's bullet.

"What are you thinking about, my love?" Maya asked softly, noticing the quiet look in his eyes.

Damian turned his head, kissing her lips softly, then resting his forehead against hers.

"I was thinking that the best things in life aren't built with money or power," Damian whispered, his voice filled with overwhelming love and peace. "They are built by courage, healed by mercy, and kept safe by love."

Maya smiled, closing her eyes as the warm ocean breeze blew over them, holding her family tight in the house that love had built.

The storm was over. The darkness was gone. And in the fortress of the mafia Don, a healer’s heart had brought eternal light.
