Chapter 8 - THE TRIAL OF THE HEALING HANDS

Spring brought new life to the Costa estate.
The red roses in Mr. Alvarez’s garden were in full bloom, and the ocean breeze blew sweetly through the open windows of the mansion.
Leo’s health had completely recovered. Dr. Mercer had performed a final comprehensive echocardiogram, confirming that the hole in the boy's heart had fully closed—a natural miracle aided by peace, proper care, and happiness.
One afternoon, Damian sat in his private study with his legal team and senior executives.
A knock came at the door, and Maya stepped inside, wearing a professional navy suit, carrying a thick leather folder.
Damian gestured for his executives to leave. "Give us the room."
Once the doors closed, Damian walked around his desk, pulling Maya into his arms for a quick, warm kiss. "How did the meeting with the state medical board go?"
Maya looked up at him, her face shining with a brilliant, triumphant smile. She held up the leather folder.
"They reinstated my nursing license, Damian!" Maya gasped, her voice thick with emotion. "The board reviewed my service records, the testimony from Johns Hopkins, and... and a glowing letter of recommendation from Dr. Mercer and the chief of pediatric medicine at Mount Sinai!"
Damian smiled proudly, taking her face in his hands. "I never doubted it for a second."
"They offered me a position as the head pediatric trauma nurse at the new Costa Children's Medical Center downtown," Maya added, her eyes wide with joy.

Damian kissed her forehead. "You earned every bit of it, my brave nurse."
"No," Maya smiled, resting her hands against his chest. "We earned it together."
