Chapter 10 - The Warm Place

Six months later.

The summer sun in Boston was warm and bright, illuminating the grand, seventy-story glass tower overlooking the harbor—the former headquarters of the Moretti Syndicate.

Inside the executive penthouse suite, the massive mahogany desk where Uncle Aldo once sat had been removed.

In its place stood a bright, sunlit room filled with architectural blueprints, charitable foundation plans, and glass display cases housing historical artifacts from small mountain towns across West Virginia.

Uncle Aldo Moretti was gone—stripped of his voting power, indicted on forty counts of federal corruption, and currently serving a fifteen-year sentence in a minimum-security federal facility.

The Moretti family empire had been completely restructured into the Callahan-Moretti Philanthropic Trust, dedicating billions of dollars to small-business preservation, rural medical care, and maternal health across the country.

At 4:00 PM, the grand double doors of the office clicked open.

Dante stood up from his drawing table, wearing a comfortable white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

Stepping into the room was Clara.

She wore a beautiful yellow summer dress, her dark hair flowing softly over her shoulders, her smile radiant enough to light up the entire city sky. In her hands, she carried a small woven basket filled with warm, freshly baked cinnamon rolls.

"You're late, Mr. Chairman," Clara teased softly, walking across the plush rug and setting the basket on his desk.

Dante smiled—a warm, deep, radiant smile that had permanently erased the cold ghost who once sat in a wheelchair in the snow.

He walked around the desk, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her close against him. "I was reviewing the grant applications for the new medical center in Pine Ridge."

"And?" Clara asked, leaning her head back, looking up into his eyes with boundless love.

"Approved," Dante whispered, bending down to imprint a soft, tender kiss upon her lips. "Every single cent."

Clara smiled against his lips, holding him tightly.

Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the city of Boston stretched out beneath them—brilliant, golden, and vast under the summer sky.

Dante looked out over the harbor, holding the woman he loved in his arms, feeling a profound, unbreakable peace wash over his soul.

He was no longer a name that people feared in dark rooms. He was no longer an empire built on ice and blood.

He was a man who had found his way home—guided by a debt paid, a promise kept, and the warmth of a girl who had taught him how to live.
