Chapter 7 - The Midnight Siege

By 11:30 PM, the storm had turned Pine Ridge into a ghost town. Visibly zero, wind howling like a dying wolf through the narrow streets.
Outside Miller’s Corner Bakery, two black SUVs sat idling in the dark, their exhaust fumes rising into the freezing air.
Inside the rear SUV, four of Julian Vane’s men sat passing around a flask of whiskey, laughing as they checked two large yellow gasoline canisters sitting in the trunk.
"Ten minutes till midnight," one thug grunted, checking his watch. "Let's splash the fuel around the back kitchen first. The old man won't even make it out of bed."
Suddenly, the rear left tire exploded with a loud PFFFT.
The SUV tilted sharply to the side.
"What the hell?" the driver barked, opening his door and stepping out into the knee-deep snow with a flashlight. "Hey, Frank, did you run over a nail or..."
A shadow materialized out of the swirling white snow behind him.
Before the driver could draw his weapon, a massive, gloved hand clamped over his mouth, pinning his head back at a brutal angle. A sharp knee struck his spine, and with a swift, silent twist, the man went completely limp, collapsing into the snowbank.
Inside the SUV, the remaining three thugs froze as the driver’s door swung open.
Standing in the doorway, framed by the blinding white blizzard, was Dante Moretti.
"Who the fuck are—" one thug started, reaching for his jacket.
Dante stepped into the vehicle like a hurricane.
His fist connected with the first man’s jaw with a sickening CRACK, shattering the bone instantly. He grabbed the second man by his collar, slamming his head against the reinforced window until the glass cracked and the man collapsed unconscious onto the floorboards.
The third thug managed to pull a combat knife, lunging wildly at Dante’s throat.
Dante caught the man’s wrist mid-air, squeezing until the bones in the thug's hand crushed together. The knife dropped into the snow. Dante delivered a devastating short-hook to the man’s sternum, driving the air from his lungs, before dropping him with a swift blow to the neck.
Total elapsed time: eleven seconds.
Dante wiped a drop of blood from his glove, picked up the radio from the console, and stepped back out into the storm.
He pressed the talk button.
"Julian," Dante spoke calmly into the radio, his voice cutting through the static.
On the other end, inside the bakery’s front alley, Julian Vane froze, holding his radio to his ear. "Who is this?! Frank?!"
"Frank is sleeping in the snow, Julian," Dante’s voice replied smoothly. "And your other three men are broken on the floor of your truck."
Julian’s face turned white as paper. He drew his nickel-plated revolver, looking wildly around the pitch-black alleyway. "Who the hell are you?!"
"I'm the man who owns the bank," Dante’s voice echoed—not just from the radio, but from the darkness at the end of the alleyway. "And the man whose father built the empire you work for."
May you like
Julian gasped, his eyes widening in sheer terror as a tall, imposing figure stepped through the swirling snow into the pale light of the alley lamp.
"Dante... Moretti..." Julian whispered, his hands trembling.
