Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Ambush

The glass-walled executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of Cole Industries buzzed with nervous energy. Board members whispered among themselves, casting anxious glances toward the empty CEO chair at the head of the long obsidian table.

Elena Ashford sat near the front, dressed in an immaculate crimson Chanel suit, wearing an expression of supreme confidence. Beside her sat her legal counsel, a shark-like corporate litigator named Marcus Vance—no relation to the family, but notorious for crushing high-profile divorce settlements.

“Where is Nathan?” muttered Arthur Sterling, a senior board member. “He calls an emergency session at eight in the morning without an agenda, and he’s late?”

Before anyone could answer, the heavy double doors swung open.

Nathan walked in, flanked not by nervous assistants, but by Richard Hale carrying a massive stack of legal files, followed closely by two federal marshals in full uniform.

Elena’s confident smirk faltered slightly, but she quickly recovered, lifting her chin. “Nathan, what is the meaning of this theatrical display? We have institutional investors waiting for our quarterly projections, not a circus.”

Nathan didn't answer her immediately. He walked slowly to the head of the table, placed both hands on the polished surface, and scanned the faces of the people who had helped run his family’s empire for decades.

“There will be no quarterly projections today, Elena,” Nathan’s voice cut through the room like shattered glass. “Instead, we are going to discuss corporate fraud, embezzlement, forgery, and incestuous corporate conspiracy.”

An audible gasp echoed around the table. Marcus Vance immediately stood up. “Objection! As legal counsel for Mrs. Ashford, I demand you retract that defamatory statement immediately, or we will file an injunction—”

“Sit down, Marcus,” Nathan interrupted coldly, nodding to the federal marshals. “Marshal, please execute the warrant for the immediate seizure of all personal and corporate electronic devices belonging to Victoria Ashford and Elena Ashford.”

“You can’t do this!” Elena shrieked, standing up so fast her chair screeched against the marble floor. “You arrogant little bastard! My family built half of this conglomerate!”

“Your family built nothing on quicksand and lies,” Nathan said, pulling a yellow envelope from his jacket and tossing it onto the table right in front of her. “Read it, Elena. My father’s final confession. It details how you and he conspired to hide your biological child, passed her off as an heiress, and engineered an engagement designed to consolidate stolen assets while destroying innocent lives.”

Elena’s face drained of every drop of color. She looked down at the envelope as if it were a venomous snake ready to strike.

“And that’s just the beginning,” Nathan continued, turning to address the entire board. “For the past five years, Victoria Ashford has utilized her position to embezzle over twelve million dollars from the corporate foundation into offshore accounts—funds meant for pediatric medical research. We have the bank records. We have the IP addresses. And as of twenty minutes ago, an arrest warrant has been issued for Victoria at her private residence.”

The boardroom erupted into chaos. Investors shouted over one another, board members demanded resignations, and Marcus Vance frantically gathered his paperwork, realizing his client was completely indefensible.

Nathan stood tall amidst the uproar, feeling a profound sense of liberation. The empire his father had built on deception was crumbling—and out of the ashes, he was finally building something real.
