Chapter 15 - The Ambush

The midnight air at the Lake Forest rail yards was biting cold. Thick fog rolled in off the lake, wrapping around the rusted boxcars and towering cranes like ghostly fingers. Dominic stepped out of his black SUV, walking alone toward the dilapidated central warehouse, his heavy boots crunching against the gravel.
Inside the warehouse, the single overhead light flickered miserably. Viktor hung limply from the chair, unconscious but breathing. From the shadows above, a figure stepped onto the metal catwalk.
"Right on time, Dominic," Julian Vane sneered, removing his silver mask to reveal a face scarred by fire and twisted by pure hatred. "I wondered if the great Moretti had lost his nerve."
"You should have stayed buried, Julian," Dominic said, his voice echoing off the concrete walls. He didn't flinch, keeping his hands loose at his sides, entirely aware of every sound around him.
"Buried? Because of you?" Julian laughed, a harsh, grating sound. "You took everything from me! And now, I’m going to take your wife, your children, and everything you hold dear, right before I put a bullet in your brain."
"You won't get the chance," a calm, authoritative voice called out from the darkness near the loading dock.
Suddenly, floodlights blazed to life overhead, illuminating the entire warehouse in blinding white light. From every entrance, Marco and the elite Moretti security detail poured in, their weapons drawn and locked onto Julian’s hired mercenaries stationed in the rafters.

Julian’s eyes widened in sheer panic. "What is this? You set me up!"
"No," Dominic said, stepping forward with lethal grace as his men disarmed Julian's thugs in seconds. "You walked right into the end of your own story."
