Chapter 19 - Healing and Holding On

By dawn, Moretti Manor was secured once more. Federal authorities, quietly managed by Dominic’s extensive network of influence, took custody of Julian Vane and his surviving mercenaries, ensuring they would spend the rest of their lives in a maximum-security prison from which there was no escape.
The household slowly returned to its quiet rhythm, though the air felt lighter, cleansed of the final lingering ghost of the past.
In the sunroom, sunlight poured through the newly repaired glass windows, warming the wooden floorboards. Ava was back at her easel, vigorously painting a bright, vibrant picture of a rainbow over the lake—inspired by the events of the past few days, translating her resilience onto canvas.
Emily sat on the velvet sofa, nursing baby Leo, who slept soundly, entirely unaware of the storm his family had just weathered.
Dominic walked into the room, carrying two cups of hot tea. He handed one to Emily and sat down beside her, wrapping his arm around her shoulders just as he had done two years ago.
"Julian is gone," Dominic said softly, his voice filled with a profound, lasting peace. "For good this time. There are no more shadows left, Emily. No more enemies hiding in the dark."
Emily leaned her head against his chest, listening to the steady, reassuring beat of his heart. "I know," she smiled. "We faced the worst of it, and we came out stronger."

Dominic kissed the top of her head, his fingers intertwining with hers. "You saved us, Emily. Not just today, but every single day since you walked into my life."
"We saved each other," she corrected him gently.
