Chapter 9 - A Legacy Restored

The wedding of Dominic Moretti and Emily Hayes was hailed by Chicago media as the event of the decade.

Held at the historic Fourth Presbyterian Church on Michigan Avenue, followed by a grand reception at the Drake Hotel, the ceremony was a breathtaking blend of elegance, warmth, and genuine love.

There were no armed bodyguards standing in plain sight, no whispers of underground wars, and no fear.

I wore a lace A-line gown with a long train, holding a bouquet of white peonies and yellow roses. Ava served as my maid of honor, looking adorable in a matching white dress with a flower crown in her dark curls.

When the heavy wooden doors of the church opened and I walked down the aisle on the arm of my mother’s former doctor—a kind man who had become a close family friend—I locked eyes with Dominic.

He stood at the altar in a crisp black tuxedo, looking so handsome it took my breath away. Tears glistened in his gray eyes as he watched me walk toward him.

When my hand was placed in his, Dominic leaned in and whispered, "You are the most beautiful sight in the world."

The vows were spoken not from written scripts, but from our hearts—promising protection, loyalty, and eternal love through every storm life might bring.

When the priest declared us husband and wife, Dominic pulled me into a kiss that sealed our souls together forever.

During the reception at the Drake Hotel, as soft orchestra music played in the grand ballroom, Dominic took my hand for our first dance.

We glided across the polished floor, surrounded by hundreds of smiling faces.

"Happy, Mrs. Moretti?" Dominic asked, spinning me gently before pulling me back into his chest.

"I have never been happier in my entire life," I answered, resting my cheek against his lapel.

Suddenly, Ava squeezed her way between us, grabbing both of our hands. "Can I dance too?"

Dominic laughed, scooping Ava up into his arm while keeping his other arm wrapped securely around my waist.

The three of us danced together under the grand crystal chandeliers, a family forged not by blood alone, but by choices, courage, and unconditional love.

Late that night, as the party began to wind down, Marco walked over to our table, carrying two glasses of expensive champagne.

"Congratulations, boss," Marco said, raising his glass. "And congratulations, Emily. You brought peace to a house that hadn't seen it in twenty years."

Dominic clinked his glass with Marco's. "To new beginnings."

"To family," I added softly.
