Chapter 10 - The Mistress of Vescari

The wedding of Dominic Vescari and Mara Ellis was hailed as the event of the decade in New Jersey, but it was nothing like the cold, political galas of the past.

It was held on the grand lawn of the Vescari estate, under a canopy of white roses and shimmering fairy lights.

Over three hundred guests attended—not just city officials and business leaders, but every single member of the domestic staff, the dockworkers, the local shopkeepers, and Mara’s old friends from Philadelphia. Everyone was treated with equal honor, equal luxury, and equal warmth.

Mara walked down the aisle on the arm of Elias Vescari, who walked proudly beside her with his cane, wearing a tailored Armani suit that he finally admitted felt "quite comfortable."

Mara was breathtaking. Her custom ivory gown hugged her full curves with regal elegance, a veil of delicate lace trailing behind her as she walked toward the altar.

Standing at the end of the aisle was Dominic. His eyes never left her for a fraction of a second, tears of overwhelming love brimming in his eyes as he held out his hand to take hers.

"Take care of her, son," Elias said softly, placing Mara’s hand into Dominic’s strong grip. "She’s the best thing that ever happened to this family."

"I will, Dad," Dominic promised quietly. "With my life."

The ceremony was filled with laughter, tears, and vows of eternal loyalty. When the priest finally declared them husband and wife, Dominic pulled Mara into his arms and kissed her with a passion that made the entire crowd break into thunderous applause.

The reception lasted long into the warm summer night.

Mara’s bakery catered the dessert tables, filled with warm pastries, custom cakes, and yes—a special tray of miniature gourmet bran muffins made personally for the groom’s father.

At midnight, as the guests danced under the stars, Dominic led his new wife to the quiet balcony overlooking the garden where they had first truly met.

Dominic wrapped his arms around Mara from behind, resting his hands over hers as they looked out at the peaceful estate.

"What are you thinking, Mrs. Vescari?" Dominic whispered against her neck, kissing her soft skin.

Mara smiled, leaning back against his strong chest, feeling the steady, warm beat of his heart.

"I’m thinking about twenty-six days into my job," Mara murmured softly, looking at the brilliant diamond shining on her finger. "When a bowl of chicken soup hit the marble floor, and I thought my life was over."

Dominic chuckled, his arms tightening around her lovingly. "And instead, your life was just beginning."

"It was," Mara agreed, turning around in his arms to look up into the dark, loving eyes of the man who had given her everything. "I love you, Dominic."

"I love you, Mara," Dominic replied softly. "Forever."

Below the balcony, sitting in his favorite wooden bench by the kitchen garden under the soft glow of the patio lights, Elias took a slow sip of his chamomile tea, smiled at the clear starry sky, and knew that his family was finally, truly home.
