Chapter 14 - The Strike in Genoa

By midnight EST, while the children were asleep back at the Rinaldi estate under the watchful eye of their grandmother and a reinforced security team, the wheels of international justice turned with terrifying velocity.
In the high-tech war room of the Manhattan skyscraper, Vittorio and Serena watched a live, encrypted satellite feed provided by the Italian State Police.
The screen showed the rain-slicked docks of Genoa, Italy.
Dozens of dark tactical vehicles with flashing blue lights pulled into the massive industrial complex surrounding Warehouse 14—a sprawling, un-marked concrete facility owned by a shell company linked to Valerio Valenti.
Over the audio feed, heavy iron doors were blasted open with hydraulic breaching tools. Italian police officers flooded into the building, their automatic rifles drawn, shouting commands in rapid Italian.
"Target secured," a voice crackled through the speaker in Italian. "We have confirmed fifty-two high-end luxury vehicles with altered VIN numbers, and two hundred shipping containers containing unregistered industrial components bearing the Apex Global logo."
Inside the Manhattan conference room, Marcus slammed his fist onto the table in celebration. "We got them. The Italian authorities are issuing an international freeze order on every account associated with Apex Global right now."
Vittorio leaned over his desk, pressing the intercom button connected to his legal team in Rotterdam.
"Rotterdam legal," Vittorio commanded. "File the Genoa search warrant results directly with the Dutch maritime magistrate. Demand an immediate cancellation of Gia Valenti’s injunction based on fraudulent asset representation."
"Copy that, Mr. Rinaldi," the Dutch attorney replied instantly. "The magistrate is on standby. We’ll have the cargo release signed within thirty minutes."
Serena let out a long, shuddering breath, collapsing into the leather office chair beside Vittorio. The adrenaline that had sustained her through the long evening was beginning to fade, replaced by the deep physical exhaustion of her late pregnancy.
Vittorio immediately dropped to one knee beside her chair, taking her small, warm hands into his broad palms.
"It's over, Serena," Vittorio whispered softly, his eyes searching her pale face with deep concern. "The ships are moving. The hospital contracts are safe. Apex Global is destroyed."
Serena looked down at him, a tired but happy smile touching her lips. She reached out, smoothing back a stray lock of dark hair from his forehead.
"We did it together," she whispered.
Suddenly, Serena’s phone chimed on the mahogany desk. It was an incoming video call from the estate.
Vittorio reached up, tapping the screen and placing it on speaker.
The bright, energetic face of nine-year-old Mateo appeared on the screen, holding his tablet in the dimly lit hallway of the estate. Behind him stood his brothers Marco, Luca, and Leo, all dressed in their pajamas, looking anxious.
"Mom? Dad?" Mateo whispered into the camera, his dark curls messy. "Are you guys coming home soon?"
Serena’s heart melted instantly. "Mateo? Sweetheart, why are you boys awake? It’s past midnight!"
"We couldn't sleep," Luca chimed in, squeezing his head into the camera frame beside Mateo. "We heard the security doors lock earlier... and we saw the rain. Is everything okay?"
Vittorio stood up, leaning over Serena’s shoulder so his powerful, reassuring face filled the screen.
"Everything is perfect, boys," Vittorio said, his voice deep, warm, and filled with absolute authority that instantly banished their fears. "The work is finished. Your mother and I are coming home right now."
"Can we make pancakes tomorrow morning?" Leo asked sleepily from the background.
"We can make whatever you want, Leo," Serena laughed softly. "Now go back to bed, all of you. We’ll be there before you wake up."
"Okay! Love you, Mom! Love you, Dad!" Mateo beamed before ending the call.
Serena looked up at Vittorio, her eyes shining with tears of absolute joy. "Look at them. Two years ago, they would have been terrified, hiding in their rooms. Now... they just want pancakes."
May you like
Vittorio leaned down, pressing his lips to hers in a tender, lingering kiss that filled the quiet conference room with warmth.
"Because they know they have a mother who loves them," Vittorio whispered against her lips. "And a home that cannot be broken."
