Chapter 10 - A New Sunrise

One year later.
The gentle murmur of the Atlantic Ocean drifted through the open balcony doors of a magnificent private villa in Amalfi, Italy. The warm Mediterranean breeze carried the scent of blooming lemons and saltwater, a stark, beautiful contrast to the icy, brutal winters of Chicago.
Salvatore had taken a temporary step back from the daily operations of the empire, leaving Luca in charge of the city while he took his wife on an extended, well-deserved honeymoon.
Melanie stood on the balcony, wrapped in a soft silk robe, watching the golden sun slowly rise over the sparkling blue waters. Her physical recovery was complete; she could run, dance, and stand for hours without a single hint of pain. The scars on her body had faded into faint, silvery lines, badges of a war she had completely won.
Suddenly, two powerful arms wrapped around her waist from behind. Salvatore pulled her flush against his bare, muscular chest, burying his face in her soft hair, inhaling her sweet scent with a contented sigh.
"Good morning, mia regina (my queen)," Salvatore murmured, his voice thick with sleep, kissing the sensitive skin beneath her ear.
"Good morning, husband," Melanie smiled, leaning back against him, placing her hands over his large ones. "The sunrise is beautiful today."
"Not as beautiful as you," Salvatore replied automatically, making her laugh softly. He turned her around in his arms, looking down at her with a gaze that had only grown more intensely loving over the past year.
He noticed a small, glowing look in her eyes today, a soft, secret smile playing at the corners of her lips that he hadn't seen before. He arched a perfectly groomed eyebrow. "What is it, cara? You have a look on your face like you've successfully stolen a shipment of my finest scotch."
Melanie chuckled, her heart fluttering with an overwhelming, incandescent happiness. She took his large right hand and slowly guided it down, placing it flat against her stomach.
Salvatore froze. The brilliant, strategic mind of the Mafia King went completely blank for a second. He looked down at his hand, then back up into her shining blue eyes, his breath hitching in his throat.
"Melanie... do you mean...?" his voice shook, a rare, breathtaking vulnerability breaking through his features.
"We're having a baby, Salvatore," Melanie whispered, a joyful tear slipping down her cheek. "A little prince or princess. A new beginning for the Rossi family."
Salvatore stared at her, completely speechless. For a man who ruled an entire city with an iron fist, who had faced down armies without flenching, the news of a child completely brought him to his knees.
Slowly, carefully, he dropped to his knees before her, just like he had done on the cold concrete of the warehouse two years ago. But this time, there was no blood, no pain, no terror. He pressed his forehead against her gentle stomach, his arms wrapping securely around her hips as he let out a shaky, emotional breath.
"Thank you," Salvatore choked out, his tears wetting the silk of her robe. "Thank you for saving me, Melanie. I thought I was destined to be a monster forever. But you gave me a home. You gave me a family."
Melanie ran her fingers through his dark hair, looking down at her husband with an absolute, profound adoration.
Two years ago, she was a broken, paralyzed woman hiding in the dark, waiting for death to claim her. But a monster had found her. A monster who had looked into her broken soul, whispered, "Who hurt you?" and proceeded to tear down the world to rebuild her.
May you like
He wasn't her monster. He was her protector, her husband, and the father of her child.
The sun fully rose over the Amalfi coast, bathing the couple in a warm, golden light, erasing the final shadows of their past, promising a future filled with nothing but absolute peace, love, and a beautifully triumphant happily ever after.
