Chapter 9 - The Crimson Kingdom

Six months later, the city of Chicago witnessed the event of the century.
The Rossi estate was decorated with thousands of white roses, fairy lights illuminating the massive estate grounds under a clear autumn sky. Every major political figure, business tycoon, and international crime boss was in attendance, dressed in their finest attire.
But today wasn't a day of business or war. It was a day of absolute celebration.
Inside the grand dressing room, Melanie stood before a full-length mirror, adjusting her wedding gown. It was a masterpiece of white lace and silk, trailing yards behind her, featuring a sweetheart neckline that highlighted her radiant, healthy skin. She no longer used her cane; her stride was confident, elegant, and entirely unhindered.
The door opened, and Luca stepped inside, holding a small velvet box. He smiled warmly, looking at her with a profound, brotherly respect.
"You look stunning, Miss Carter. Or rather... soon-to-be Donna Rossi," Luca said gracefully. "The Don asked me to give you this before the ceremony."
Melanie opened the box to find a breathtaking, flawless emerald necklace, surrounded by dozens of micro-diamonds, shining like a constellation of stars. It was a symbol of her journey—the green gown she wore when she chose survival, now encrusted in absolute royalty.
"Thank you, Luca," she whispered, tears of happiness pricking her eyes. "For everything. For protecting me."
"It has been the greatest honor of my life, Donna Melanie," Luca bowed deeply.
The music began to play, a grand, orchestral melody that echoed across the estate. The heavy oak doors opened, revealing the grand courtyard where hundreds of guests stood up in absolute reverence.
At the end of the aisle, standing before a floral altar, was Salvatore.
He wore a custom white tuxedo jacket with black lapels, looking like a literal king waiting for his queen. His eyes were fixed entirely on the back of the courtyard, and the moment Melanie appeared, walking gracefully down the aisle on her own two feet, the unyielding, terrifying Don Salvatore Rossi completely lost his composure.
His eyes filled with a raw, overwhelming emotion, his breath catching as he watched the woman he found bleeding on a cold warehouse floor walk toward him as a vision of pure majesty.
Melanie walked with her head held high. Every step was a declaration of victory over pain, over abuse, over fear. She reached the altar, and Salvatore immediately stepped down, taking both of her hands in his. His hands were warm, trembling slightly with an intensity of emotion he had never shown to the world.
"You are my miracle, Melanie," Salvatore whispered, his voice loud enough only for her to hear.
"And you are my sanctuary, Salvatore," she replied, her eyes shining with pure love.
The priest began the ceremony, but for the two of them, the world had faded away into a beautiful silence. They exchanged vows written not in standard legal prose, but in promises of blood, protection, and eternal devotion.
"With this ring," Salvatore said, sliding a massive, flawless diamond ring onto her finger, "I give you my name, my empire, and my soul. I will burn the world to keep you warm, and I will protect your smile with my last breath."
"With this ring," Melanie replied, sliding a matching platinum band onto his finger, "I give you my trust, my future, and my heart. You gave me my legs, Salvatore, but you also gave me a reason to walk. I am yours, forever."
"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared. "You may kiss the bride."

Salvatore didn't hesitate. He pulled her into his arms, lifting her slightly off her feet as his lips met hers in a fierce, burning, deeply passionate kiss that sent a roar of applause and cheers through the massive crowd.
They were no longer defined by their past traumas. They were Salvatore and Melanie Rossi, the undisputed King and Queen of Chicago.
