Chapter 5 - The Corporate Viper

The seizure of Dr. Vance’s private files revealed a web of corruption far larger than a single rogue doctor.
In the basement of the Marchetti estate, Reyes laid out dozens of encrypted financial documents across the command center table. Damian, Noelle, and a team of forensic accountants worked through the night analyzing the data.
"It wasn't just Vance," Reyes reported, tapping a finger on a corporate organizational chart. "Vance’s offshore accounts were being funded by Vanguard Medical Holdings—a massive pharmaceutical conglomerate."
I leaned over the table, scanning the list of board members. My eyes stopped on a name near the top.
"Denny Vance," I read aloud, my voice trembling with sudden realization. "Denny... my manager at Rosalie's Diner!"
Damian’s eyes narrowed into dark slits. "Denny is Harold Vance’s nephew."
The full, sickening picture finally came into view.
Denny hadn't kept me employed at the diner out of pity or charity. He had been placed there by his uncle to monitor me—to make sure I remained broken, poor, and isolated so I would never have the resources or stability to question the circumstances of my children's birth! Every time Denny shamed me about my 'loss', every time he reminded me of my empty arms, he was actively psychological manipulating me to keep me quiet.
"He used my worst nightmare to keep me under his thumb," I whispered, my knuckles turning white as I gripped the edge of the table.
Damian stood up, his tall frame radiating a cold, lethal energy.
"Reyes," Damian said softly. "Where is Denny Vance right now?"
May you like
"He's currently at Rosalie's Diner, Boss," Reyes replied. "Closing up for the night."
Damian turned to me, offering his hand. "Come, Noelle. It’s time to settle your tab."
