Chapter 8 - The Oath at Midnight

Three days later, in the private chapel on the grounds of the Marchetti estate, a quiet ceremony took place beneath the warm glow of stained-glass windows.

There were no reporters. No flashbulbs. No high-society guests.

Only Reyes, the three babies resting peacefully in a triple wooden stroller decorated with white ribbons, a local judge who owed Damian his life, and the two of us.

I wore a simple, elegant ivory silk gown. Damian stood beside me in a dark navy suit, looking every bit the protector he had promised to be.

"Do you, Damian Marchetti, take Noelle Bishop to be your wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, to protect and defend her and her children for as long as you both shall live?" the judge read aloud.

Damian looked down at me, his dark eyes holding a deep, unwavering promise.

"I do," he stated clearly.

"And do you, Noelle Bishop, take Damian Marchetti to be your wedded husband?"

I looked down at the triplets, who were watching us with bright, hazel eyes, then looked back up into Damian's face.

"I do," I answered softly.

When Damian slid the platinum band onto my finger, a strange, beautiful warmth washed over me. It wasn't just a legal shield; it was the anchor I had been searching for through fourteen long months of stormy grief.

He leaned down and pressed his lips gently against mine—a soft, reverent kiss that sealed our pact.

"We win, Noelle," Damian whispered against my cheek. "From this day on, we win together."
