Chapter 6 - The Diner’s Demise

The neon sign of Rosalie’s Diner flickered weakly in the late-night mist as Denny Vance locked the front register. He hummed a tune to himself, counting a stack of hundred-dollar bills—his monthly kickback from his uncle’s offshore accounts.

The front glass doors suddenly shattered into thousands of glistening pieces as three armed men kicked them open!

Denny dropped the cash, screaming as he scrambled backward behind the counter. "What the hell?! Who are you?!"

Damian walked through the broken doorway, stepping calmly over the shattered glass. Behind him came myself, dressed in an elegant wool coat, looking directly at the man who had tormented me for over a year.

Denny’s eyes bulged in absolute shock. "Noelle?! What are you doing with Marchetti?! I fired you yesterday!"

"You didn't fire me, Denny," I said, my voice steady and cold. "You were just keeping watch over your uncle's stolen property."

Denny turned pale, his eyes darting toward the back exit, but two of Damian’s men were already blocking the hallway.

"Your uncle is currently in federal custody, Denny," Damian said, leaning his hands on the diner counter. "He gave up everything. The offshore accounts, the medical falsifications, and your role in keeping Noelle suppressed and silent."

"I... I didn't know!" Denny lied frantically, sweat pouring down his face. "Uncle Harold just told me to give her a job! I didn't know about the babies!"

"You shamed her in front of an entire room of people yesterday," Damian recalled, his tone dangerously soft. "You called her unstable. You used her grief as a shield for your cowardice."

Damian reached out, grabbed Denny by his tie, and yanked him over the counter, slamming his face onto the metal grill.

"Listen to me very carefully, Denny," Damian growled. "This diner... this land... your apartment... everything you own has been purchased by the Marchetti Foundation as of one hour ago. You are broke. You are ruined. And tomorrow morning, the police will arrest you for conspiracy to commit human trafficking."

Damian tossed him onto the dirty floor like trash.

May you like

I stepped forward, looking down at Denny as he cowered at my feet.

"My babies are safe, Denny," I told him softly. "And you will never hurt another mother again."
